Jack Dahlish is an investigator, the kind of guy people go to when the cops can’t help. The coin he wears around his neck grants him the ability to see the supernatural creatures that live hidden among humans. When a little girl is taken from a playground in broad daylight, can he track down who (or what) might have taken her before it’s too late?

Covers and tribulations
After getting the 4 book Guild Series completed and published, I thought for sure I had this whole thing down to a science…. well, except for the advertising part. That’s a whole other can of worms that is proving harder to figure out that the projects in my senior year Physics class.
Writing has proven to be the easiest part of the self-publishing process, even more so with the most recent developments. In July, I contacted a cover designer to work with me on the Urban Fantasy series I’m putting out next. They put together a cover for the first book that was pretty good. I’d give it a 7 out of 10. For the price I paid, it was fantastic.
In the middle of August, I reached out again to start work on the second cover, planning to ask for the third in September so I could have the first three books ready to put in the store for the November release of book 1. Within a week, I received the first draft of the cover. It was decent, but there were a few things I wanted to change so I sent that request off.
Then I waited… and waited… and waited. Over three weeks, I sent five messages checking in to see if there was any updates on the requested changes. Zero response. After a month, I threw in the towel and cut my losses.
I’ve found a new company to work on the covers, but to keep them cohesive I asked them to do a new cover for book one. The first draft of that cover arrived this morning, and I can’t tell you how floored I was. It was so much better than the finished cover from the previous company. So maybe this will have turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Anyway, if you’ve wondered at my month of silence, it was mostly because I was dealing with things like this. The back room stuff you never see or hear about when a book is published. It sometimes seems like there are a hundred and one tasks to complete between finishing a first draft and actually publishing the book. And every one of those tasks can be a stumbling block to slow you down.
It’s not going to stop me, and with luck it won’t even delay me that much. I’m still hoping to have Lost Souls ready to go live in late November. With luck, I’ll even have book 2 ready to go up for pre-order by the release date.

Prequels Promotion
I have two prequel stories for my Guild Series among more than a hundred other stories from a multitude of authors, available to download and read at any time.. These are from a bunch of different genres – Action, Suspense, Mystery, Science Fiction, & Fantasy. In other words, there’s something here for everyone. It is available through the end of the month.
The first story is one I’ve shared before – the journey Tuya took getting from Earth up to Luna on the way to joining a ragtag crew on a freighter. The second story is about how Erik went from a Coalition navy grunt to captain of his very own Transport Guild freighter.
Check it out! I know I’ve already found a couple of stories that are making me look forward to new books to read in the months to come. No matter how many books you might have on the Kindle, there’s always room for me.

Waterloo (Book 3 of Guild Series) available now
I had a little snafu and forgot to submit the book for Kindle Unlimited when I set up the pre-order. That has been corrected, and I apologize for any frustration it might have caused.
Book 4, and the last in the series, is complete. I just have one last round of editing and the cover art, and then it will go up in the store for pre-order. I’m hoping to have it release around the middle of August.
This series has been a blast to write, and it really showed me what I’m capable of if I just throw myself into a project. I hope you’re all enjoying reading it, and I look forward to unveiling my next project in a couple of months.
If you haven’t done so yet, click the Newsletter link at the top of the page. I only send it out once a month, and you’ll get exclusive access to short stories I’m writing in the Guild universe as well as in that of my next series.

Guild series now 4 books!
While doing editing on the book that I had planned to be the end of the trilogy, I realized that I had more story left to tell. It was the reason I had been feeling so dissatisfied with the ending. So… now working on book 4. It should be out in late August or early September, as long as I can get everything else lined up. I hope those of you reading the series will enjoy it.
Speaking of the series, book 2 has been out for almost two weeks now. I’ve done zero advertising on this one (saving that for when book 3 and 4 release), and I’m happy to say that I’ve still managed to sell almost as many copies as book 1. If things keep going as well as they’ve started, I might be getting a little closer to my dream of quitting the day job and going full time with my writing.
