"Allegory loses much of its power when it is so transparent. Like a gossamer garment, this narrative does almost nothing to cloak what lies beneath or create a new silhouette.
This feels like a partially realized concept, not a fully fleshed thing with" Read more of this review » |

"This was much better than I remembered. I switched between the physical book and the audiobook that Andy Serkis narrated. Serkis did an incredible job, especially as Gollum (obviously) and Smaug. What a great time.

“Writing is a very spiritual aspect of my life because stories were what originally gave me the desire to seek God with everything in my power. Fairy tales, great fantasy stories, and classics, they all helped me understand certain concepts in the Bible, such as developing and keeping a child-like wonder. They gave me examples of what Christ-like sacrifice looked like. I believe those stories glorify God in some way.”

“A thing resounds when it rings true,
Ringing all the bells inside of you,
Like a golden sky on a summer eve
Your heart is tugging at your sleeve,

“In the fairy tale, an incomprehensible happiness rests upon an incomprehensible condition. A box is opened and all evils fly out. A word is forgotten and cities perish. A lamp is lit and love flies away. An apple is eaten and the hope of God is gone.”

“Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
