Cherish Sneak Peek

A look inside Cherish...

“Are you sure you’re okay with this?” Edie asks over her shoulder as she looks for something to wear.
I wave a hand at her. “It’s fine. I want him to be happy.” I hope my face doesn’t betray the fact that I’m lying through my teeth. Not about wanting him happy, that part is true. I’m far from fine about this double date, though. I don’t want him to like another girl.
“What if you told him? Give him the chance to decide if he’s okay with everything? I know you feel like he’ll be put off by…”
“Edie,” I interrupt not even wanting her to say it, “I love hanging out with him. I don’t want things to get weird. If he ever stops looking at me the way he does, it will wreck me. He is the first guy who looks at me like I matter like I’m special.”
“That’s because he’s one of the smartest people on the planet. He knows a good thing when he sees it.”
I’m seated on Edie’s bed watching her get ready for a double date with Spencer and some sorority girl who’s been chasing after him since orientation. After his drunken profession of love last weekend, he decided to stop chasing after me, and let her catch him. The next day when we all got together, he told me he would respect my wishes and not ask me out again. I know it’s what I said I wanted, but it hurts. Once Edie leaves, I plan on drowning my sorrows in a pint of ice cream and a book. The new Avery Maxwell just loaded on my kindle and I know reading it will make me feel better, even if just for a short time.
“You look great,” I tell her. Edie always looks amazing. She’s wearing tight dark jeans and a sparkly tank top I could never pull off with the scars on my collarbone and shoulder. “Where are you going?”
“Some house party over on Hester. I’m not sure whose house it is. Why?” she asks, pausing her mascara application to talk.
“No reason. I was just curious.” I’m glad they’re going to a party and not somewhere romantic. The thought of him snuggled up to someone else is like a knife to the gut. Though, I guess that still could happen.
“You know it doesn’t have to be this way,” she says. “You should be coming with us, not that other girl.”
“It does,” I tell her in a voice that leaves no room for discussion. “It’s not fair of me to pursue things with Spencer. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t go to some crowded party and not have a panic attack. This is for the best.”

Will Rebecca miss out on her chance at true love? We'll have to wait and see on November 16.

Happy Fall!

Fall is here, and I couldn't be more excited. What do you love about this season? I'd love it if you reply to this blog post and let me know your favorite things about Fall.

Here's what I love...
*I can finally go outside without the threat of a heatstroke!
*Hoodies and scarves are my jam so I'm excited to break out the Autumn wear.
*Pumpkin spice everything is so... YUM!
*Football: Of all the things I love about this season, my favorite part of Fall is football. I'm so happy I get to watch my favorite teams.

I tend to be a little fanatic when it comes to college football. Funny story...

Several years ago, Oklahoma State was in a great position to play for a National Championship. (No really, they were! This is why there's now a playoff system in college football.) I just knew we were going to be undefeated so I had to get a football signed by the team. On the quest to get Mike Gundy's signature on a game day, I came face to face with a very unhappy state trooper which resulted in me getting escorted out of the Student Union! So embarrassing!

Later, when going to the stadium, I happened to be walking close to a certain head coach and let's just say, that state trooper was NOT happy. I thought I was going to get arrested! Sadly, my ball did not get signed by Gundy, and OSU did not win a National Championship. But my love for all things football is still going strong.

So why am I telling you this? Because I love football so much, I'm working on a football themed short story I'll be sending my newsletter subscribers later this month. Not signed up for my newsletter? No problem. You can do that now: http://eepurl.com/g0H7cX

Happy Fall!
XOXO ~Mica
