Claire Perkins is an artist, author, dream explorer and expressive arts coach.

With degrees in computer programming, religious studies and philosophy, Claire takes an eclectic approach to understanding life and creating meaning in it.

She experienced a deep dive journey of awakening after the death of her 26-year-old son in 2004. In my dream, while I was at the memorial service for this baby, I had a jolt of inspiration that I would create the "Deep Water Leaf Society" and by doing so I would heal my own grief and that of many others.

When my oldest son died several years later, the dream came back to me. My son was born in April, the fourth month, so it made sense to me that he was the four month old baby. I chronicled my journey of grief, healing and awakening in my first book and titled it The Deep Water Leaf Society to honor the message of the dream.

But still I kept wondering what exactly IS a "deep water leaf"? What is the meaning of that phrase?

That is the question that sparked the idea for my latest book, Fallen: The Adventures of a Deep Water Leaf. It is a spiritual fairy tale or fable about a little leaf, Alora, who falls from the Dreaming Tree and lands in the strange world of Lake Sojourn. She encounters many of the challenges, emotions and questions we all face as we go through life. She also finds unexpected guides and teachers along the way.

As the story unfolds, the reader will discover, along with Alora, what it means to be a deep water leaf. (less)

Shifting Perspective

Facebook in an election year often feels like this: A firestorm of moral outrage, us-and-them-ing, end-of-the-world-ing, rage, fear, polarization, and propaganda-driven divisiveness. And this is nothing new, although it feels like it is escalating to a new crescendo. I wrote
