Life has a way of teaching us lessons like no other. Life is the greatest teacher of all— it teaches us things that no one else could. Some of life’s lessons we would rather not have, some of what we learn we wish we did not have to, and that is exactly what makes life such an excellent teacher. If there is one thing he has learnt, it is that life is unpredictable. It is obscured by the second. If life was predictable and always in our control, how would we learn? Things do not often go as planned, despite our best intentions. The solace is, we can learn and grow from what life teaches us, no matter what! This, among others, is what has made him almost what he is today.

Tales From Different Tails

Tales from Different Tails Tales from Different Tails by Nana Awere Damoah

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just finished reading “October Rush” from the book, “Tales From Different Tails” by Nana Awere Damoah and I must say, it is a very intriguing read! Being a student of KNUST myself and being very much cognizant of the subject explored by the author in the short fiction, I found myself awed from the very first sentence to the Read more of this blog post »

This book, considering how well it is written, has taken me longer to finish than planned. And it is my fault. Life! Balancing writing your own book, school, work, breathing, drinking water, and everything else is a sport! The adulthood they didn't w ...more

Erich Fromm
“The main condition for the achievement of love is the overcoming of one's narcissism. The narcissistic orientation is one in which one experiences as real only that which exists within oneself, while the phenomena in the outside world have no reality in themselves, but are experienced only from the viewpoint of their being useful or dangerous to one. The opposite pole to narcissism is objectivity; it is the faculty to see other people and things as they are, objectively, and to be able to separate this objective picture from a picture which is formed by one's desires and fears.”
Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving

Erich Fromm
“The faculty to think objectively is reason; the emotional attitude behind reason is that of humility. To be objective, to use one's reason, is possible only if one has achieved an attitude of humility, if one has emerged from the dreams of omniscience and omnipotence which one has as a child. Love, being dependent on the relative absence of narcissism, requires the developement of humility, objectivity and reason.

I must try to see the difference between my picture of a person and his behavior, as it is narcissistically distorted, and the person's reality as it exists regardless of my interests, needs and fears.”
Erich Fromm, The Art of Loving

Habeeb Akande
“The difference between greed and ambition is a greedy person desires things he isn't prepared to work for.”
Habeeb Akande

Edith Wharton
“Overhead hung a summer sky furrowed with the rush of rockets; and from the east a late moon, pushing up beyond the lofty bend of the coast, sent across the bay a shaft of brightness which paled to ashes in the red glitter of the illuminated boats.”
Edith Wharton, The House of Mirth
