I soon added to this writing about living about working in France and then upon my return to the UK, writing for a local history magazine. Add these together Sport, Travel, France and history and you have the ingredients for my book.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Ian Chester The idea to travel all the way around France by bike came to me many years ago whilst I was living and working there. I became fascinated with the 191…moreThe idea to travel all the way around France by bike came to me many years ago whilst I was living and working there. I became fascinated with the 1919 Tour when I realised that at 5,560km, it was one of the longest routes in Tour de France history. Also, coming as it did just hours after the official end of the First World War, I was intrigued to find out how the riders fared. Add to this the fact that my trip in 2019 coincided with the 100th anniversary of the yellow jersey, then this seemed the perfect story to write about. (less)
