Thank you for your interest in Ortiz Lane!

I have been writing stories, articles and commentary since the fifth grade. Today, my writing is informed by my work in Level 1 trauma as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, a career in veterinary medicine, and a lifelong devotion to foster care.

My wife, Becky, and I live near our many children and an extended church family near the Ozarks foothill community of Joplin, Missouri. After almost fifty rejections, I decided to publish Ortiz Lane, my first novel, on the Amazon platform. If you enjoy it, you’ll be pleased to know a second book is coming soon.

Jonathan Franzen
“Nice people don't necessarily fall in love with nice people.”
Jonathan Franzen, Freedom

Jonathan Franzen
“Depression presents itself as a realism regarding the rottenness of the world in general and the rottenness of your life in particular. But the realism is merely a mask for depression's actual essence, which is an overwhelming estrangement from humanity. The more persuaded you are of your unique access to the rottenness, the more afraid you become of engaging with the world; and the less you engage with the world, the more perfidiously happy-faced the rest of humanity seems for continuing to engage with it.”
Jonathan Franzen, How to Be Alone

Jonathan Franzen
“How wrong to have been so negative, how wrong to have been so gloomy, how wrong to have run away from life, how wrong to have said no, again and again, instead of yes.”
Jonathan Franzen
