Of Shells and Serendipity

A sea change: Love at first sight

Elspeth “Elsie” Abercrombie is a dutiful daughter—to a point. Although her mother tries to persuade her to marry a local man, Elsie prefers to study biology, especially marine animals.

Dr. Magnus MacPherson is a physician at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, and comes to St. Andrews to teach at the medical school there for the summer term. He originally planned to return home to the Isle of Skye to establish a sanatorium until a sea change happens: a chance encounter with Miss Abercrombie and it’s love at first sight.

Can Elsie and Magnus reconcile their dreams and ambitions and find a love as deep and enduring as the constant sea?

I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, but never lived there as I was whisked off to various places in the UK and Gibraltar (Spain) as my father was in the Royal Air Force (RAF). We eventually settled down in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England and I commuted to London until I accepted a job in Lugano, Switzerland and worked there for a year. I also vacationed in various places in Europe. I came to Utah to study at Brigham Young University where I received a BA in English and a MA in Rhetoric. I worked as secretary/administrative assistant in various departments at the university for 29 years and also taught academic first-year writing (English Composition) for 10 years. I met my husband in Utah so I eventually settled down in one place to raise our four children.

Living in the western United States, I miss the ancient buildings and historical sites of Europe. It's one of the reasons I decided to write historical fiction, to explore places I knew from a historical perspective. I also read a lot of historical novels including Regency romances. I am a genealogist/family historian so I'm steeped in the past. I even grow antique roses.

Upcoming romance release

So this precious kitty will be the star (she will accept no other title) in an upcoming standalone rom-com. She is one spoilt kitty cat who decides to take her owner’s life into her own paws.

So if you like tropes like…

he falls first

slow burn

catitude (she made me write that!)

…then you might enjoy this upcoming rom-com. The cover is getting finalised in the next week (artwork is so pretty!)

Another one to tick off my list once it has been edited! But first, I have another waiting to be edited - actually several but let’s see how I go today!

Of Sea and Sorrow

Disappointed in love, Edith Linton has given up on her dreams of matrimony and a home of her own. Concerned about her beloved brother’s health, she acquiesces to a summer by the sea after her mother determines it is the only way to improve his health, setting aside her own worries about her future.

Recently returned from the war in Crimea, Dr. Henry Forester hopes to improve medical practices in the seaside town of Weymouth, England. Not everyone is receptive to his new methods, especially his new patient's protective older sister.

Will Edith and Henry find a way to see past their differences? Or will all hope for the future pass before it has a chance to thrive?

Heloise C. Kensington returned to the beautiful Pacific Northwest after attending university in the desert. It took her more years than she wanted, but she eventually found her prince charming, and they married one sunny summer morning. She is now living her happily-ever-after with her handsome prince and her darling children. In her quiet moments you will find her reading, writing, sewing, or enjoying music. She also loves every chance she gets to explore the stunning beauties of her part of the country—wandering through the woods and strolling down the beaches of her home state.

Amidst Ruins and Remembrances

Where the ruins meet the sea, can love find a second chance?

Eloise Deighton grew up sharing secret adventures along the shores of Whitby, England with summer visitor Griffith Hastings. One summer, Griffith declared his love for her and promised to return. He never did, leaving Eloise’s heart in ruins.

Now a widower, Griffith returns to the seaside town he loved as a boy, hoping to forge new, happy memories with his six-year-old daughter.

A chance encounter between Eloise and Griffith causes old memories to sweep in like the tide. Eloise’s resolve to protect her heart is crumbling like the abbey ruins, yet she fears Griffith will abandon her once again. Griffith is determined to win her back, but he will have to convince her that he has changed. Can the sea that once united them bring a second chance at love?

Amidst Ruins and Remembrances is a standalone novella in the Victorians at the Beach series where seaside summers meet sweet romance.

Amy Newbold has always loved fairy tales, history, and reading. She grew up making snowmen during Utah winters and learned to read at age four. Amy has been reading and writing ever since. She wrote her first monster story in elementary school and her favorite dinosaur is a stegosaurus. She enjoys spending time in nature hiking, camping, and birding. Amy is an avid board game player and has a deep appreciation for chocolate. She loves to travel and spend time with family. When not traveling, Amy enjoys exploring the world through books.

Braving the cold by writing in front of the heater

I was quiet with newsletters during May and June as I focused on writing and finishing some of the stories I had started… Yeah, that’s a long list we won’t talk about right now.

In the end I managed to write 233,704 words in May. Yep way more than my goal of 150,000 words that I didn’t think I would manage. On average I spent 8 hours per day writing - some days longer and some shorter. Managed to do this even with two kids home sick for a week and trying to push through now that I’m sick with whatever it was they had.

But, onto what’s on the horizon for releases. I’ve spent the past 5 days editing and formatting A Dragon Hatched! ready to release. I really enjoyed writing this one mainly because I adore the Flutterfur in this - while this story is a standalone I am really tempted to one day write about Pip and the other Flutterfurs!

Clarence and the Midnight Mayhem is being formatted next week. This one will release sometime during the winter of 2025 (June-August) Aussie time.

I have a sweet adult romance currently in final edits that I would like to release before Christmas. Currently it’s titled An Outback Christmas but I haven’t set it in stone just yet. If you love an Australian setting, a military man, and a no-nonsense leading lady - you might enjoy this one. The cover is finalised except for the title….

When Easter eggs turn into real dragon eggs, the adventure of a lifetime begins!

Naomi and Kellie thought they were just hunting for chocolate treasures in Burton Park, until they discovered a glowing egg that was definitely NOT filled with candy. When a tiny dragon with shimmering scales hatches before their eyes, the girls are whisked away to Dreyana—a magical world of floating islands, singing flowers, and crystal waterfalls.

But Bluey isn't just any dragon. He's a Tide Dragon, born once every hundred years to protect the magical oceans. There's just one problem: his special crystal is missing, stolen by mischievous Glitterlings who love anything sparkly. Without it, Bluey's powers could flood entire islands!

Now Naomi and Kellie must brave whispering woods, outsmart glitter-bombing thieves, and help their new friend become the guardian he was meant to be. Along the way, they'll discover that the greatest magic of all is the courage to help a friend find their way home.

A heartwarming tale of friendship, bravery, and believing in yourself—perfect for young readers who love dragons, magic, and unforgettable adventures!

I wrote this one with readers aged 7-9 years in mind. It’s a chapter book with about 5-8 images per chapter - omg the flutterfur is so adorable!

This is a standalone book. Available 15th March 2026 but up on preorder now

I’m working on a series of light LitRPG style books - I started these several years ago and keep having to rework the gameplay. By the way, the covers are by Vicki Adrian and are stunning…

Anyway, I had a shorter story partly written which was sort of my - let’s have a go - story. It was one I came across this month and decided I was going to finish. Which I did! And I’m now going through and editing the parts I flagged as needing more work.

Overall, it not exactly a serious novel - in fact it’s the kind of story you can probably get through in a couple of hours without thinking too hard about anything in it. It is fun, quite sarcastic, and I sort of like my little mini-cast of characters.

Stay tuned for release info on this one. The cover is actually ready to go and was a custom illustrated cover by

Just don’t expect a serious novel….

In other news, I have been looking over Trick or Chaos - for those of you that remember if was supposed to be released last Halloween but something wasn’t quite right with it and I was having so many issues with the audio. Audio issues continued into the start of this year so I actually cancelled my subscription until they get their voices fixed.

I do think I pinpointed the issue I was having in Trick or Chaos and that was in chapter 3 - so I’m working at improving it and possibly adding an extra chapter in as I feel it will better show off the characters and world.

And a shout out to Karen of who did the cover art!!!

That’s all for this one. I was meant to send this earlier but was hoping for some more exciting news lol

Stay safe,

Jenni
