Let your kids run wild.
I don't mean to let them be in danger. I am a very protective auntie.
I mean, let them play. Let their imaginations roam.
"Back in my day..."
I was obsessed with books and TV but I left the house as well. The neighbor's garden was the perfect home for fairies. A hole in the ground where a tree fell was great for a fort. (I do not suggest trying to eat roots. Also, acorn mush will make you sick.)
Playing in the dirt, experimenting with things found in my backyard, discussing my wild dreams at the dinner table...
These all helped to shape my imagination. Now I can pull a story out of a tin can. It may never get written but that doesn't matter. It is a way to exercise the mind.
Even if your child doesn't want to write, imagination is key to many things in life.
Let it grow.
