“Evangelists are witnesses to the gospel. They are not salesmen for Christ.”
Kenneth J. Garrett, In the House of Friends: Understanding and Healing from Spiritual Abuse in Christian Churches

“If your preaching of the gospel of God's free grace in Jesus Christ does not provoke the charge from some of antinomianism, you're not preaching the gospel of the free grace of God in Jesus Christ.”
David Martyn Lloyd-Jones

“I loved my friend
He went away from me
There's nothing more to say
The poem ends,
Soft as it began-
I loved my friend.”
Langston Hughes

Kenneth Garrett Mark: Jesus, Servant and Savior
As the years roll on, I find myself gaining my most useful material for preaching from reading the sermons and essays that others have written; and not gaining as much from the more technical-purely exegetical commentaries. A good case in point that is the "Preaching the Word" series, by R. Kent Hughes. Hughes' commentaries are basically collections of his sermons--and his skill and precision as an exegete are wonderfully displayed in them.
