Ghezal Omar is a San Francisco-based writer who was born in Afghanistan and escaped with her family to the United States during a time of civil unrest when she was a child. Her background informs her writing, which often explores themes of identity, displacement, and belonging.

In 2010, Ghezal traveled back to her homeland and co-wrote and co-produced "Bawar," a short Afghan film that was broadcast locally. Her passion for storytelling extends beyond the page and screen - she can often be found at comic book conventions promoting her work and inspiring others to create and share their own stories.
