Lord help me believe and speak the truth
Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.” 1 Kings 17:24
The Word of God in our mouth is more powerful and mighty than anything else. Elijah had just raised the widow woman’s son from the dead by praying and interceding to the Father. If we were to read the entirety of 1 Kings 17 we would see this is certainly not the first miracle this widow woman had experienced. She meets Elijah first when she is gathering wood to bake cakes of bread for herself and her son. It was to be their last meal, but the man of God said bring me some first. In her obedience she did and her family survived many days.
How often do we see God moving in our lives, but we neglect to see it is a move for us? Did this widow woman really believe her survival was only tied to serving Elijah? Would we?
And she said to Elijah, What have you against me, O man of God? Have you come to me to call my sin to remembrance and to slay my son? 1 Kings 17:18
You see it’s all too easy to look inside ourselves and see things we aren’t happy about or proud of, but when God looks at us He instead sees us through the lens of Jesus. Our redeemer has made us white as snow. Not once did Elijah mention this woman’s sin, nor did he say that her son’s death was punishment for wrongdoing. In fact, his word to her was that as long as the famine and drought persisted there would be food, but oftentimes we feel our blessings are tied to performance or being ‘good enough’ to receive. Elijah praying for her son and the miracle of her sons’ resurrection was something God did just for her benefit, and when she saw God cared for her and for her son personally she said that the word in Elijahs’ mouth was the truth.
As believers, we often still think like the widow woman, but we can also think and act like Elijah. Part of bringing the truth of the Word to people is sharing (and showing) them that God loves them as individuals, and this love isn’t tied to performance or being ‘good enough’. As we reach others with this truth and show them through our acts of service and words the personal nature of the Fathers’ love it becomes clearer to us just how deeply the father cares for us as well.

When you're too busy....stop.
Looking back over the last few weeks, it seems my days have been filled with a crazy amount of work and stress. My newest study is available, my son has started his final year of homeschooling, and my mother's health has sadly taken a turn for the worse.
But God. He has been so good during this time.
Even in the midst of hectic and barely enough time to think, the Word has been a rock of peace and security for me every day. So much so, that I decided I wouldn't be reading anything but the Word for a few weeks. Taking that time was exactly what I needed.
My peace is back and I'm ready to tackle the newest draft sitting on my desk.
I'm almost ashamed to say this was the first time I looked at GR in awhile and I'm so excited! The giveaway is going strong, and I can't wait to share these copies with the winners. Good luck to all who entered!

Great historical romance
The Merchant's Daughter by Melanie DickersonMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
I'm not sure why it took me so long to find Melanie's books, but I'm so glad I did. They're excellent summertime reads. I do enjoy fairytale retellings, but that aspect of this book didn't stick out quite as much. Overall it was a fun, clean, historical romance that could be stand-alone, but I've got book 3 already downloaded.
