Farhad weaves the story with utter rawness, balancing the emotional depth and Indian family chaos so swiftly. The book covers the queerly aspects flawlessly with a mix of support from family, romance and representation of two sides of the same coin.

I feel, the characters have been crafted really raw, insanely flawed, emotional and vulnerable. Ved feels strikingly quiet warm, and self-assured on the surface, yet quietly vulnerable as he tries to reconcile what he wants with what he has been taught to want. Carlos, with his steady calm and emotional clarity, feels like a reassuring presence, someone who balances Ved beautifully.
I feel a bit more tension in the core romance beyond the external complications could have elevated the stakes and made the central love story even more resonant.

Queerly Beloved remains a heartfelt, engaging read that celebrates love in its many forms and insists that happily ever afters are not just for fairy tales. It made me laugh, feel deeply, and close the last page with a warm smile. The book doesn’t try to shock for the sake of it; instead, it lingers, stirring discomfort in a way that feels intimate and deeply personal, as if the story is less about what haunts the characters and more about what they are still carrying inside.

The narrative opens with Anurag, an exceptionally gifted computer scientist whose work extends beyond conventional technology into neural research and out-of-body experimentation. While travelling to Chicago to resolve Y2K-related complications for a financial institution, he vanishes entirely—no remains, no clues, no closure. This unexplained absence becomes the novel’s emotional anchor, leaving behind a silence that shapes everything that follows.

The story follows Gwen Griswold, a teenage girl attending a boarding school where unsettling, inexplicable events begin to unfold. Kanamarlapudi carefully constructs an atmosphere where silence and memory are the true engines of tension.

What stayed with me most in A Cold Hold was how gently and honestly fear is handled. It isn’t presented as something meant to shock or startle, but as something quietly lived through.
