MY BABY
Today is Wednesday - Happy Hump Day, Everyone!
Last Sunday I received a box from Amazon containing my "author copies" of my book SISTERS IN CRIME: A Quirke Detective Agency Novel. I didn't quite know what to expect. Yes, I knew how many pages the book contained. I was very familiar with the cover design I had commissioned. But until I held the actual book in my hand, it still wasn't "real."
Don't know how many of you out there are parents, but holding my book was very reminiscent of holding my now grown-up babies for the first time. I couldn't believe they were real. I couldn't believe they came from me and I couldn't believe how beautiful they were. Yes, it's been quite a few years since I was a "new mom," but that feeling of wonderment was never far away. I re-experienced a very similar joy when I held my first book in my hand. It was real, it came from me and it was beautiful. I hope all aspiring authors get the chance to experience this particular type of "parenthood."

BUTTERFLIES IN MY STOMACH
Hi Everyone -
After a gestation period lasting longer than I care to admit, I am so excited to announce the publication of my first book, SISTERS IN CRIME: A Quirke Detective Agency Novel, which will be available on Amazon on Tuesday, September 15th.
As a new author, heralding the arrival of my creation is giving me a serious case of "butterflies in my stomach!" What if I put my years-long writing effort out there and everyone thinks it's do-do? Or what if the book just lies there like a lox, with no sales movement to speak of? Thankfully, the feedback from early readers has been positive (and not all of them are people I'm related to - LOL!). But still, it would be a dream come true (and would disperse those darn butterflies) if SISTERS IN CRIME became a success.
The story of two detective sisters had been percolating in my brain for a long time and had survived many permutations before I decided the best way to tell this story was in book form. SISTERS IN CRIME is planned as the first in a series, featuring 12-year-old Dashiell and 17-year-old Chandler Quirke, siblings who have the art of detecting in their blood. The protagonists are empowering for young readers and will merrily resonate with mystery lovers and fans of adventure stories of all ages.
To all the new authors out there, I'm here to support you and help quell those first-time-author jitters. I come wielding my own "butterfly net!" Let's just take a moment to congratulate ourselves for completing a daunting task. We're writers!!!
