I do far too much research into every little aspect of a story before I write, so it's rarely the lack of words - a block - but the abundance of them - a flood - that's the issue. Where to start? But in the end, starting is the important part. If you hate where you started, you can always change it. Or write a new beginning. I have to remind myself often that I'm not aiming for perfection when I start writing. My aim is to start the damn thing. (less)

Sometimes your creations can surprise you, but at the end of the day, they're just an extension of you. Your fears and desires and subconscious ideas. Whatever your mood, you can take it out on your characters. They can handle it. Or they won't. Either way, you've got potential for a great read. (less)
