Natural Reactions

Launching a new book, particularly a debut novel from an unknown Welsh writer, is not an easy task in normal times, let alone during the unprecedented situation we all find ourselves in at present due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, Lockdown is a perfect time for people to escape reality by reading a book, and I am trying harder than the current Welsh Rugby 15 to get a result by letting people know through social media that my first book is now available.

I am obviously thrilled that a few readers have already told me that they enjoyed reading Unnecessary Reactions and I hope, through their word of mouth and its presence on social media, that even more people will begin reading my first book. I am especially pleased that some readers have even nominated and voted for Unnecessary Reactions as Debut Novel of the Year in the Goodreads Choice Awards. Diolch yn fawr iawn/Thank you very much!

I am told that “the Welsh angle” makes my story unique and different from most thrillers currently available. However, I hope this Celtic Noir also appeals to a worldwide audience, many of whom may never have heard of Wales. I certainly believe that a lot of readers will be able to relate to the small town setting and the issues some of my characters face during the age of austerity. I personally like to think of Unnecessary Reactions as a contemporary Western, but then again a lot of my English friends already think of Wales as the Wild West!

I'll let you, the readers, decide if my fictional version of the land of my fathers supports such comparisons!
