Hi, I am Alex. I wrote Four Darks because I needed—and wanted—to read it myself, but also to feel less lonely with certain life experiences and a particular way of being and existing in the world.
I hoped it would resonate with others in a similar place, creating a sense of connection—a sense of being seen and understood in one’s otherness.

I am an artist and writer with a background spanning media and journalism. I hold a master’s degree in American cultural history, psychology, and communication science. My career includes work as a radio DJ, freelance collaborations with television broadcasters and production companies, and several years as a journalist for print and online magazines. And someday—hopefully—I'll find the time to write another one.

Alternate bio – just for the sheer fun of it

Alex has been writing books since roughly first grade. Or rather—at that early stage—he drew and wrote them, because we are really talking about comic books here: a few sheets of paper, stapled together. By third grade, he had started his first “proper” novel on an old-timey typewriter—naturally complete with illustrations.

Fast-forward to adulthood (at least on paper): Alex tried a variety of paths, including briefly considering life as a fine artist or an actor, and writing audio-play scripts for his university’s radio station. One character was notably named Bread, which still makes Alex laugh to this day. Drama school rejected him and suggested—quite seriously—that he might want to consider becoming a comedian instead.

Instead, Alex became a professional radio host. Shortly before almost being booted from university (studying often struck him as tedious enough to turn him into a master procrastinator), he did, in fact, earn a Master’s degree in American Cultural History (yes, this really exists), Communication Science, and Psychology. This turned out to be excellent preparation for a career in the wonderfully dubious world of entertainment media, where he has worked across radio, television, print, and online magazines—eventually and somewhat magically leading him to become a dubbing writer and director.

Behind the scenes, however, he has always pursued his own creative projects—interrupted only by occasional bouts of artistic depression and despair. Among these projects were several unfinished novels, and, at long last, one finished one: FOUR DARKS—a work known for its dark, violent, and disturbing content, balanced by moments of humor, sexiness, and compassion.
