Delightful December!

Holidays and Happy Days

Silly Season is upon us; let the festivities begin!

Welcome to the final month of the year! Can you believe it?

There is plenty happening in my world before I can even think about holiday season, though.

I have, serendipitously, almost finished the first draft of the third and final book in A Midlife Romcom Series, and on the cusp, too, of my author talk for the second book, Marriage & Mayhem (and some pandemonium).

Book three, tentatively titled Friendship & Fun (and romance undone), ties the series up very happily with the folks of Pelican Cove finding new ways of enjoying romance, friendship and family gatherings. There are wedding bells, banquets, infatuations and more as the eclectic cast enjoy their usual hectic lifestyle.

But, on to my author talk on 10 December 2025 at the Gloucester Library, NSW. This will be a follow-on from my talk there in March for the release of the first book, Love & Laughter (and other disasters).

If you, or anyone you know who might be interested, can travel to gorgeous Gloucester, it would make my day extra special. There will be book swag and lollies, plus both books available for purchase. They make a great gift for the reader in your life who enjoys a sweet romance with a giggle. The event is free, but bookings are essential at the link below:

Author Talk Free Tickets

You might be wondering why I have plenty happening in my world- well, we're going to my Gloucester author talk in our motorhome! It is a little nod to the mobile cafe mentioned in the book (not giving any spoilers away). Plus, we are taking our cat, Maisie, with us who doubles as Poppet, Meryl's cat, in the series. So, there is much to prepare for, before I even get there! Books and swag, motorhome, meals and paraphernalia, plus all that our furry Princess requires too.

It's all fun and games though 😻📚🚚

And the last few weeks have been especially rewarding for me in the writing community. I have been featured in several blogs and invite you to have a read at what readers are saying about this heartwarming Midlife Romcom Series.

This will probably be my last blog post for 2025, so, Merry Everything and Happy Days, from my world to yours.

Until next time, keep smiling 🤗

Heartwarming and Humorous: Book Tour

The Accidental Plus One Down Under by Alison Ripley Cubitt

I'm delighted to feature this travel memoir by Alison Ripley Cubitt who says: Travel for me now isn't just about the destination, but savouring every moment of the journey.

Ebook publication date: 24 November 2025

New Year's Eve 2019

While everyone else is popping champagne corks and ringing in a new decade, Alison—The Accidental Plus One—is crammed into a flying tin can somewhere over the Equator, obsessing over whether she remembered to lock the front door.

Can she really uproot her life halfway across the world—again?

Rural calm was sweet while it lasted, but when Alison's partner's job prospects dwindle, the lure of a new adventure on the far side of the planet proves irresistible.

This time, she promises herself, it'll be easy. Fewer things to pack. No dog to uproot. Renting rather than buying. And before she knows it, Alison is heading for a land of giant spiders, the world's longest lockdown and a place where strangers call you mate.

The Accidental Plus One Down Under is a heartwarming and humorous memoir that proves sometimes love leads us on the most unpredictable journeys.

Perfect for fans of:

• Real-life expat tales
• Heartwarming stories of starting over

If you love stories about the ups-and-downs of life far from home, you won't want to miss this next hilarious chapter.

Book 2 of the Accidental Plus One series

Author Bio –

Alison Ripley Cubitt is a multi-genre author who started her writing career by winning first prize in a writing competition with a pony book. Some years later, she left New Zealand with the ability to make a white sauce without a recipe, carry three plates at once, and ride a horse (though not at the same time). Dreaming of becoming a copywriter, she landed a job as the receptionist in an advertising agency in Sydney that made the TV series Mad Men’s work culture look tame.

But after two and half years, the lure of London proved too hard to resist, and she left Australia. Landing in London at the right time, she got her break in television production and lasted 15 years, working on Channel 4’s anarchic The Big Breakfast and at Walt Disney and the BBC.

For the past five and a half years, she has divided her time between Melbourne, Australia and Jane Austen country, England.

Her published non-fiction includes travel guides and memoirs. Her fiction includes screenplays, short stories and thrillers. The Accidental Plus One Down Under: Travel Tales from a Trailing Spouse (Book 2) is her tenth book.

I'm thrilled to include my 5* review for The Accidental Plus One Down Under here on the blog today. Particularly as it's launch day! Congratulations to Alison Ripley Cubitt on an entertaining and engaging read!

My Review:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Accidental Plus One Down Under is both a culinary and informative travel guide wrapped in a package of laughs and observations surrounding human nature. In other words, nonfiction that provides everything a reader would want in a memoir.

A couple of the author's foodie quotes made me giggle as I resonated with her desire to sample sneaky servings:

But this is research, I told myself. I took small mouthfuls...

...more butterscotch than caramel. After eating the two together, I need to lie down.

But besides the decadent taste sensations, Ripley Cubitt manages to enthuse us with her hiking adventures as well. Not only in Melbourne where she was based, also on an adventurous tour in Tasmania, as well as picturesque New Zealand; and so much more!

Why I Would Recommend The Accidental Plus One Down Under:
For anyone wanting to make the most of starting over, or of challenging circumstances, or simply making the best out of life, this memoir provides all the motivation and encouragement you need.

My Favourite Quote:

...never to postpone the things that bring joy- life is shorter and more fragile than we think.

News Flash!

I have the most exciting author event coming up!!
I am overjoyed to be launching my latest novella, Marriage & Mayhem, at the Gloucester Library!
In the story, there are numerous landmarks from Gloucester and Barrington outlined, as the friends from Pelican Cove go hiking in the area.
The librarian at Gloucester Library has warmly welcomed me with support to sell both my books. The library has also stocked copies of both books for readers to borrow!
Love & Laughter and Marriage & Mayhem will be sold as both a set, and individually. (No EFTPOS available; apologies).
Both sets and individual books will be wrapped in a “book pocket” created with free sparkling new dish towels since the story includes much baking and even a neighbourhood dinner crawl.
Bookmarks and lollies will be yours for the taking!
I do hope to see you there! It is free to attend, but bookings are essential at the link provided:
Free Author Talk Tickets:

Here are links for both books, which, incidentally, make the perfect gift for readers of sweet (clean) midlife romance:
Book One: Love & Laughter

Book Two: Marriage & Mayhem - latest release!

Love & Laughter by Elora Canne

Both books can be read as standalones but are more engaging as a sequel as you get to know the characters more closely. Both are quickread novellas.
That’s all for now, till next time xx

Outstanding October

When Opportunity Knocks

Welcome the opportunity!

This has been the underlying message throughout the publishing process (hint: and the story itself) of my upcoming novella, Marriage & Mayhem.

As scary as it is to take opportunities you wouldn't normally take, the rewards are almost always worth it.

The book is currently with early readers and I wasn't going to take that stressful path. But, on advice from those more experienced than me, I did, and I am thrilled with the outstanding outcome making the story shine 🤩

Writing novellas this year has been the best fun!

And now, it's time for the big reveal!

As promised, I have the cover reveal of Marriage & Mayhem for you, my valued blog subscribers first, before social media! Massive thanks to Amber Grosjean for her commitment to giving readers the best 'first glance' of my book. I love it!

Upcoming Opportunities

I'll be hosting an author talk at the Gloucester Library once again for the launch of Marriage & Mayhem. Dates to be confirmed for end November, early December, so get your travel plans in motion and I’ll see you there!

Exciting Announcement

I'll be offering a free promotion of the first book in the series, Love & Laughter (dates to be confirmed). Whilst it's not necessary to read book one before book two, it is always a more engaging read to have a bit of background to the characters who carry the story.

Sizzling September 🧡

On Writing, Reading and Relaxation

It’s been the strangest August/September in my little bubble.

On Writing:

I experienced major writer’s hangover after a massive creative burst in August.

However, I did start the beginnings of a story that struck 16 months ago while on holiday in Wells, UK. The Fox and the Fairy came to me while visiting Wells Cathedral; the image below explains the creative flow better than any words could:

Stained glass wing sculpture by Edgar Phillips

Add to that, a gorgeous silver fox trinket which I regrettably didn’t purchase but think of frequently, in the adjoining curios shop to Wells Cathedral. Hence, The Fox and the Fairy is borne.

For those wondering, Marriage & Mayhem, a midlife romcom, is still on track for a November release. Currently working on the second round of edits.

On Reading:

Several good reads kept me busy, Red Dust Running by Anita Heiss, and The Jam Maker by Mary-Lou Stephens. Both reviews are linked below. Both stories enhance the qualities we look for in a partner and the lifestyle we seek in a relationship.

🧡 But the one that stole my heart is Twice in a Lifetime by Breyanna I.L. Evans. I blogged a full review, such was the impact on me. You can read the post at this link:

Twice in a Lifetime Review
On Relaxation:

After a deluge of continuous rain throughout our NSW winter, it literally felt like coming out of hibernation in Springtime.

So far, and it’s only the beginning of spring, I’ve cycled, paddle boarded, walked, swum (ok waded lol). And, of course, gardened to my hearts' content.

One momentous event worth sharing includes a splurge I made just for me. If you remember, in Awesome August’s blog post, I mentioned an armillary I fell in love with. (Read here if missed: Awesome armillary).

I discovered through research - NOT the infamous algorithm - that the shop in question was having a week-long special for new members to receive a big discount. Just one week! And I researched in that week!

So, I signed up as a new member at Bed Bath ‘n Table, and lo and behold, was granted the massive discount. Believe it or not, I still umm’d and ahh’d about buying the significantly reduced armillary.

Eventually, I finally “got it” - the planets had aligned in both armillary and reality for me, so, I bought it!

Not to mention a post I'd made earlier in the week on LinkedIn about living the life we intend for ourselves.

Partial quote here: (Full post linked below)

Want to change a habit? Start by behaving as if it is done.

• save or mini-splurge your current riches *my note to self

In other words, act as if it is so, and it is.

Even if it only feels as if it is so, until it becomes your reality.

Sometimes I think the Universe just sits back and shakes its benevolent head at me; some things take a while to sink in.

But sink in it did and I’m now a happy armillary owner for my two upcoming 2026 book releases; Moonflower Maiden, and It’s About Time; the irony of that title 🤣

Life-Changing Book Review

A Rare Find

It's not often, these days, that I drop everything to dedicate an entire blog post to a book review, but today is that day.

As I sit at my desk, I'm still sipping my morning coffee, hair not yet brushed, still shaken as I contemplate the story I've just read. Not shaken from fear; shaken from being deeply affected.

The book in question?

Twice in a Lifetime by Breyanna I.L. Evans

On the surface, its a book about falling in love and second chances. But as the story unfolds, a broader view of the complexities of relationships in all their splendor, unravels.

Kalli Morgan, the main female character, carries us along on her heartbreaking journey of love, loss and self-discovery. Along the way, Kalli envelops us in her friendships, sibling relationships, family, extended family, in-laws and, of course, romance.

But this is not some frivolous, straightforward falling in love romance, this is one that dives into the depths of feeling. Feeling deeply.

The author, Breyanna I.L. Evans, writes Kalli's story with equal measures of grace and wit. She discusses the emotional gravity of healing with the added comfort of resolution. Evans has written a treasure in Twice in a Lifetime, a story that will linger long after the last page.

As the author mentions, there are trigger warnings, so please be mindful of those when contemplating whether the book is a good fit for you.

Why I Would Recommend This Book:

Twice in a Lifetime covers topics that almost everyone goes through, making it a relatable story. The author's writing style is an easy-flowing prose despite the heavy topics.

Not only does the story contain themes of love and second chances, it also talks about relationship longevity (a topic close to my heart) and flexibility within relationship boundaries.

Favourite Quote:

"I had experienced some of the very darkest moments of my life [...] I had fought with myself over feeling happy and finding love again..."

My thoughts: Our struggles are always internal, and so is our healing, which makes our journey unique to us and not comparable to others.

My Only Complaint:

I hope there is a sequel in the works!

Tap the link for my Amazon: 5 Star Review

Or here on Goodreads: 5 Star Review

I’d give 10 stars if that was a thing.

I own this book in two formats; ebook which I preordered and a treasured hardcover which I won directly from the author!

Awesome August!

Let the Good Times RollI’m having a blast in the bookish world and I hope you are too.

I discovered a powerful armillary that I need for both my upcoming books, (listed below). It’s better than the image shown...

But first, books I’ve read!I’ve been churning through so many good books recently!
📜 A few stand outs are, By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult. I’m a bit scared of her deep digging into difficult themes, but this one is a must! In fact, I wish there was a follow on. She shows the importance of both invisibility and visibility in the (mostly) female creative arena. It’s a dual timeline that runs through a family with same but different obstacles. So well written.

🐕 Another brave read for me was Fairy Tale by Stephen King. Really scared of his stories but can’t resist a portal. And this one had it in spades! Loved the underlying message as well, essentially helping others by facing our own fears.

Two Indie Reads I Loved🐘 Look an Elephant in the Eye by Louise Usher is an intimate look at the life of a writer finding her true purpose with words while travelling to Thailand with her adult daughter. Full of deep insights, this one led me to pen my own new nonfiction book, but more on that later.

🛋️ Broken Boundaries by Helen Aitchison was another deep read with themes of mental health as we follow Melody’s “healing” with her therapist, Nate. Chilling. I really wanted to side with Nate but the author adeptly cast a dim light on him with one or two succinct observations. Brilliant.

My Writing News

After 18 months of my YA low-fantasy manuscript being stuck in some sort of cache folder, I finally retrieved and published it!

🌳 Forest of Sun and Shadows is a coming-of-age story following a teenage runaway, Rhen. She is running from one boyfriend into the arms of another. But can she trust either of them, or is she safer out in the wild and on the run?

I’ve written this one under a pen name, Carly Dune, because it’s VASTLY different from my other books and I didn’t want any overlaps whatsoever. Reader discretion is advised and you can read why in the synopsis:

Forest of Sun and Shadows

Preorder here

🌕 One of my current writing projects is a high fantasy called, Moonflower Maiden. I’ve had the mind map waiting patiently and am now loving fleshing out the story and its characters.

Maybelle is becoming the maiden in the matriarch of maiden, mother and crone. She has huge responsibilities to ensure the safety of Lomandra Woods.

Her adversaries do everything in their power to stop her, until her grandmother, crone, Pami, arms her with the strongest power of all. Anticipated release is mid-2026.

⏳ The nonfiction I was inspired to write literally came to me in a flash while reading aforementioned Look an Elephant in the Eye

Whilst it was surreal getting the whole download in my mind all in one go, it’s been quite unnerving unraveling it into a cohesive story.

But I do love the prospect of publishing another pocket guide. They’re fast becoming a favourite of mine. It’s About Time should be released early-2026.

I’m sure you can tell by both titles why the armillary I mentioned above is just perfect! The one I saw in the shop has a dramatic arrow piercing the spheres!

MORE GOOD NEWS! Book Two in A Midlife Romcom Series, Marriage & Mayhem, is with my editor as we speak! On track to be released in November 2025.

Reader Opportunities

My most recent pocket guide, Sisters in the Outback, has taken off during the month of July!

Joyful July!

I Thought I Was Finished

But that's not the case at all. Author happenings just keep on coming and I am cheering all the way.

On Thursday, 3rd July, I'll be releasing the second in series of my children's stories, Captain Binky Gallivants the Globe, in Captain Binky's Adventures, under the name, Cal Grant-Smith.

I know most readers are familiar with my books for adults, mostly on relationships, but I'm mentioning Captain Binky here because she is, in fact, a real cat. Her relationship with her owner, Jude, my sister, is one that deserves highlighting. As most of us know, bonding with a pet is good for our wellbeing, and the bond that Jude and Binky share is a touching story to hear.

Based on fact, yet somewhat fictionalised, Binky's story has been written primarily for children, but is easily a family-read all snuggled up together. There are real photographs of Binky as she settles into her new home, after flying abroad and encountering some scary adventures along the way. If you do plan on reading her story together as a family, I have the perfect snack for story time: Kitty Litter Cookies!

They're essentially trail mix but the recipe is aimed at children so I made it fun for them, calling it Kitty Litter Cookies. I have a step-by-step video if your children are mini chefs-in-the-making:

Video Recipe:  Kitty Litter Cookies

Or, here's the original recipe if you prefer:

**Mix together:1 cup rolled oats1/2 cup flax seeds (or your favourite seeds: sesame, sunflower, etc)
**In a separate bowl:1/2 cup peanut butter (or tahini paste if you have nut allergies)1/3 cup of honey1 teaspoon vanilla essencePinch of salt
**Add to oats and seeds mixture
***Add 1/4 cup dried cranberries (or your choice of dried fruit)1/3 cup choc chips1/4 cup cashews (or coconut flakes, crushed biscuits etc if nut allergies present)
**Mix together and store in airtight container in fridge for one week.Recipe credit to @runtothetable via Pinterest

Righto, onto all things romcom!

I'm currently on my last read-through of Marriage & Mayhem, book two in A Midlife Romcom series. After that, it'll go to my fabulous editor to start the process of refining the story.

I'm thrilled to let you know that my cover designer has been weaving her magic again, creating a fun book cover that displays all the intrigue contained in the novella.

I've included elements of book one, Love & Laughter, in book two, so that it can be read as a standalone, but it might be nice to catch up on the first book, because........

I'm accepting Advance Review Copy reader requests for Marriage & Mayhem at the moment. I won't be going all out with beta readers, street team or book blog tours, so this is the only opportunity to read Marriage & Mayhem before release in November. However, ARCs will be digital copies and will only go out in late September/early October. Also a quick-read novella, like book one.

If you're interested in being an ARC reader please email your request to me at:

Another free quick-read for you:

I'm delighted that my sister has featured heavily in my writing this year, 'Hi Jude!' As you might remember, we released a short story, travel memoir together, earlier this year. Sisters in the Outback is a 10 000 word life-changing spiritual quest to the enigmatic monolith of Uluru.

I'm pleased that I can finally offer epub versions of our story as a different kind of ARC read. This time, I'm taking creative license to offer Author Review Copies, since it's no longer in advance. This is a review request for the end of July to appease the invisible 3-month timeframe forces of the life of an author, whether on social media, Goodreads or Amazon.

If you're willing to accept my request, please email me at:

If you're after both Marriage & Mayhem, and Sisters in the Outback, simply header your email: Both ARCs

I hope I've given all the avid readers out there plenty to read. Take care, till next time.
