Mika Grimmer is a queer author of fantasy short stories and novels of various flavors. She graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in culture, literature, and the arts in 2008.

While biding her time until the twice-postponed 2020 Taos Toolbox cohort could finally meet in the summer of 2022, she fell avidly in love with Grand Sumo and filled many of her free hours during the stay-at-home orders brushing up on her rusty Japanese and watching perhaps too much Grand Sumo.

Mika lives with her husband in Seattle, Washington, and when she isn’t writing, she is likely throwing pottery, knitting, watching sumo, or playing the guitar very ill, indeed.

More of Mika's books…
Hilary Mantel
“The trouble with England, he thinks, is that it's so poor in gesture. We shall have to develop a hand signal for ‘Back off, our prince is fucking this man's daughter.’ He is surprised that the Italians have not done it. Though perhaps they have, and he just never caught on.”
Hilary Mantel, Wolf Hall

Walt Whitman
“I think I could turn and live with animals, they are so placid and self-contain’d, I stand and look at them long and long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition, They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins, They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God, Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the mania of owning things, Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago, Not one is respectable or unhappy over the whole earth.”
Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass: The Death-Bed Edition

Hilary Mantel
“My lord, what do you call a whore when she is a knight’s daughter?” “Ah,” the cardinal says, entering into the problem. “To her face, ‘my lady.”
Hilary Mantel, Wolf Hall

Jane Austen
“I am determined that only the deepest love will induce me into matrimony. So, I shall end an old maid, and teach your ten children to embroider cushions and play their instruments very ill.”
Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
