I began my writing career in journalism. Graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in English/journalism, I spent the next few years writing for US News and World Report in Washington, DC and Panorama and Playbill magazines in Boston, MA. I quickly realized I was born to teach, however, and so returned to school for my Master of Science in English teaching, and I've spent the last 25 years happily teaching high school and college students the art (and joy!) of writing, both creatively and academically. More recently, I've written essays on education for New Hampshire’s capital city newspaper, The Concord Monitor.

I am intrigued by the idea of magic and a sucker for fantasy fiction, so I'm sure I'd be more than happy being a student at Hogwarts.
But I also wouldn't mind living in the world Anita Diamant created in The Red Tent. Biblical settings fascinate me almost as much as magical ones do. While life was harder then, it was also simpler, which lately, is a lifestyle I find myself craving!(less)
