Writing and publishing books is a long-held dream for me. I've always been a storyteller. Even as a preschooler, I was making up stories and writing them down. In high school, I worked on the student newspaper. At the University of Washington, I wrote for The Daily and earned an undergraduate degree in communications, becoming a journalist for community newspapers and then moving into public relations, eventually running my own firm. Still, there was the siren call of fiction and the catalyst turned out to be COVID and daily online visits with my granddaughter. She wanted me to write a story about her. If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

Deborah Folka I would LOVE to attend school at Hogwarts! I think JK Rowling created the most amazing world with memorable characters and sizzling plots.

The genesis of Zoey's Closet

It began in the dark days of the pandemic. I was spending almost every evening online with my granddaughter Zoey. We read books together -- she read a page, I read a page -- and got through classics like "Charlotte's Web" and "The Thousand Acre Wood." When asked what she'd like to read next, Zoey issued the challenge: "You can write a book about me!"
