Read something, get in touch with some music, take the time to look over your work and do some editing. Read it aloud to yourself. Get out of your head by taking a walk. If a particular scene isn't coming together, explore a different one. Take your characters "on a walk". Put them in a random scenario and see how they react. LISTEN to them. Sometimes they need to drive.
You can also try a different type of art- draw or craft something. Join a writer's group and talk to other writers. I personally love making new writer friends- email me or find me on social media! Do a collab, use a writing prompt, or take a challenge. But most important... DON'T PRESSURE YOURSELF! Taking breaks to take care of yourself and have a little fun is important too.(less)

1. "Show, don't tell". IMMERSE YOUR READER in the world and the characters, don't just report on them. It's much more engrossing to be a direct witness, not just receiving an info-dump.
2. "Write the book you want to read". EVERYTHING'S been done, my friends, but that doesn't mean you can't remix combinations that haven't been tried, or put your own tastes and spin on material to elevate it beyond what's out there. Go whole hog! There's only one YOU, and that mix of ideas, tastes, hobbies, influences and experience is totally unique. You've got a niche to fill, so fill it!(less)
