Ruth Smith, writing fiction under the name she was given at birth – Ruth Mohrman - has a PhD in Medieval English and lives with her husband in the Welsh countryside close to the border with England.

She has always been drawn to mysticism and has a lifelong fascination with the past, so it is perhaps not surprising that the two come together in her writing. 'Gold of Pleasure: A Novel of Christina of Markyate' is the second novel she has written. The first,' On the Nose of the Antelope', tells the story of Ansa, a young woman destined to play an important role in the band of Paleolithic people among whom she lives. It will be published in 2022.
