Lindisfarne Prize
My new book, Salted Earth, was shortlisted for the Lindisfarne Prize. You can read more in this article from The Evening Chronicle. Coincidentally, this was the newspaper where I started my career, and it makes a cameo in Salted Earth! So meta…
Massive congratulations to all the shortlistees and well done to the winner Jacqueline Auld. I can’t wait to read all your books. And thank you to LJ Ross, Dark Skies Publishing, and all the judges of this year’s prize.

HLN authors to watch…
Scream. High Life North - the North East’s women’s magazine platform - published this GORGEOUS review of Salt Sisters.
They picked out four North East authors to watch, and I made the list! It was a real pinch-my-self-moment, and I’ve had quite a few of those recently. I just bought Boy Parts by Eliza Clark, another writer on the HLN radar, and added it to be #tbrpile (which is growing longer by the day…) Have a peek at their article for some fabulously Northern reading inspo.

Best F*ckin Book Club Ever
Here’s our reading list for the rest of the year. We’ll get together on the third Thursday of the month to talk about what we enjoyed, what we couldn’t stand, why we couldn’t put it down or why we couldn’t get past chapter 4. There are no wrong answers and everyone’s opinion counts. We’ll take it in turns to host the discussion, but whether you’re in the hot seat or not, please come along with ideas, impressions, and intentions - and prepare to leave feeling inspired.
And here’s my intention: eve...

How to write a book review
I struggle to write book reviews. It’s one of the few occasions that I find myself short on opinions and lost for words. This from someone who writes.
Sames? Then you’re in the right place: I put together this quick guide on what to include in a book review, how to approach it, and what to leave out.
Keep it short
For Amazon and Goodreads reviews, a line or two will suffice. Don’t feel the need to say a lot. And keep it simple. Basically, don’t over-think this.
Focus on the reader
Book reviews are t...
It’s launch day
FINALLY, launch day is here. I selected March 11 from the calendar six months ago when I realised I needed the structure of a deadline to work towards. It’s my dad’s birthday, so I figured I wouldn’t forget.
HUGE thank you to my family and friends for your support. You got me here.
I thought today would be pretty low-key - for those who had pre-ordered, Salt Sisters would slide discretely into their Kindles and possibly go unnoticed for a few days. I didn’t realise that Amazon sends everyone an ...

The stigma of self-
Typically, one of the first questions friends have asked after hearing I wrote a book is whether I’m self-publishing or going down the traditionally published route.
Quite early on, I decided to self-publish Salt Sisters. I came across a podcast, The Creative Penn, which I found after searching for resources for writers. The host, Joanna Penn, is a self-published author, and quite honestly, I was inspired. She’s a big advocate for self-publishing, and there was something about owning every aspe...

Virtual book launch
We might not be able to get together in real life, but that didn’t stop us from holding a launch event for Salt Sisters. Hosted by the incredible Dan Mcloughlin, I invited some family and close friends to raise a glass as we listened to excepts from the book and held a prize draw to win signed copies. Inspired by the theme of Salt Sisters, my own sister Beth interviewed me. I was overwhelmed by the show of support, and woke up the following morning buzzing from the love and feeling very lucky.
