Review of Secrets & Lies

Secrets & LiesBook reviews are the lifeblood of any author’s sales success. As my blog readers and social media followers know, I have been both humbled and gratified by readers’ reviews of Secrets & Lies, the first novel in my Riley Russell Mystery Series. I’m thrilled to add to those glowing accolades this professional review by Carolina Ciucci of Foreword Reviews. There is no greater feeling as a writer than to know your work is appreciated and recommended.

Thanks to all who’ve reviewed or rated my book on...

Let Go, Move Forward

Move ForwardI’ve put off writing this post for over a month, hoping things would improve, I could make up for lost time, and live up to the promises I’ve made to my readers. I’ve finally had to concede that it is time to let go of certain expectations and move forward with what is.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know I’ve been experiencing some unexpected health issues. As a result, I was not able to release Book #2 in the Riley Russell Mystery Series in December as planned…nor in January, whi...

Excerpt from Riley Russell Mysteries Book 2

In this excerpt of the as-yet-unnamed Riley Russell Mysteries Book 2, we catch up with Riley as she’s about to meet her newest client, the CEO of PRx Laboratories. And it would seem there’s more to this new case than initially meets the eye.

.
The woman striding up the walk to Harrington & Malloy’s front door at precisely ten o’clock Tuesday morning could only be Fabulous Fannie Fierstein. The upturned collar of a double-breasted gray cashmere Burberry trench stylishly beat back the autumn chill...

It’s My Big Debut

It’s the day of my big debut. Or so it was to be. This weekend is/was the long-awaited New England Crime Bake, a wonderful writers’ conference I’ve enjoyed for several years–except last year, thanks to the COVID lockdowns. I was particularly excited to be returning to this event this year since my debut novel was released into the world in May.

Being with my fellow debut authors in that room, in front of all our peers, the established writers we’d long admired and whose ranks we’d worked so hard...

The Best Laid Plans

File this one under “Posts I Never Wanted to Write.”

It’s about how the best laid plans can and often do go awry. About the anticipation and excitement of something being blown out of the water by circumstances beyond our control.

It’s about how life just sucks sometimes.

I generally don’t share anything online having to do with health issues. One good reason is that I have been extraordinarily fortunate, health-wise, thus far in my life. Plus, everybody’s got enough to worry about in their own ...

Early Reviews for Secrets & Lies

An Encouraging Start!

Early reviews are in for Secrets & Lies, the first book in the Riley Russell Mystery Series! Granted, it’s early, but as of this writing, every review thus far has been five stars. Of course, the reality is that this cannot last forever, but what an undeniably encouraging start! I’m beyond grateful that I seem to have found an appreciative audience for my work and that my early readers are helping to spread the word about my writing through glowing reviews. Together, we’re ...

Exciting News!

These last couple of weeks have disappeared as quickly as the Maine fog rolls in. So much has happened since the May 19 release of Secrets & Lies, the first book in the Riley Russell Mystery Series, that I was shocked when I realized it was just 15 days ago! So, an update on all the exciting news…

Sales are going great, especially in light of the fact that the only marketing I’ve done so far has been (a) a Goodreads Giveaway and (b) social media posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, ...

The Road Map to Writing Book 2

These last few weeks I’ve been spending a lot of time getting the word out about Secrets & Lies in the run-up to Pub Day (next Wednesday!!). But on this Friday afternoon I’m finally back to writing the as-yet-unnamed Book #2 in the Riley Russell Mystery Series–and this time I’ve got a road map.

I wrote Secrets & Lies as a pantser; in writing circles that’s how they refer to writing “by the seat of your pants,” or without an outline. I don’t know if it was the pantsing or the fact that it was my ...

Secrets & Lies Excerpt: A Glimpse Into Riley’s World

To celebrate the impending release of Book #1 in the Riley Russell Mystery Series (less than a week away!), today I’m offering a Secrets & Lies excerpt which gives you a glimpse into Riley’s world…and how everything’s about to change. Let me know in the comments what you think.

I’d spent the week battling lawyers, real estate agents, and the family of an apparently senile ninety-two-year-old woman who, so far, was refusing to vacate the house she had sold me. If Chris Fiorelli thought he was go...

I’m Back!

When literally two-and-a-half years separate your two most recent blog posts, it seems almost ridiculous to say, “a lot has happened since….” No, wait…it actually would be ridiculous. But I’m back! And I promised you an explanation…

Between October 2018 and May 2019, I was, of course, writing, editing, and polishing my manuscript. I was also playing babysitter to a feisty little Irish rose named Wren two to three times per week while my daughter and her fiancé grew their fine art printing busine...
