Let me introduce myself.
Hi!
To quote a line from Shadow’s Angel, “why don’t we get acquainted.”
Of course this particular line is delivered by a truck driver and directed at a dog who, although incredibly smart, hasn’t a clue what the word ‘acquainted’ means.
In this case I’m sure we’re all familiar with the word, and I’d love to get acquainted with everyone here.
I’ll start.
Recently turned 42, eek! Two dogs, two cats, all rescues, all nuts in their own special ways. Shadow’s Angel is the first novel I have released, although not the first I have written. My first was called Trading fur. It was intended as an eye opener about the cruelties of the fur trade, and of course was considered too shocking to ever be published.
After that I started on Shadow’s Angel, over ten years ago now. I finished the first draft then put it down for eight or nine years, then was prompted by a friend who had read it way back then to do something with it.
Four manuscript assessments, two structural edits and a big thumbs up from Miles Franklin award winner, Tom Flood, later, it finally made it into virtual bookstores - and I couldn’t be happier.
For a small town, middle of nowhere, Qld girl like myself, seeing my work available for sale from international retailers is...., amazing!
I remember being proud of myself the day I got my truck licence. I remember thinking things couldn’t be better, career-wise, when I became one of only two women worldwide to operate an Equilibrium crane (back then. I’m sure there’s more now).
But nothing trumps seeing so many years of hard work printed, bound and delivered into the hands of genuinely interested readers.
It’s a beautiful feeling, and if I could send out a handwritten thank you card to each and every person who buys and reads Shadow’s Angel I would.
