I'm just about finished The Dragon Reborn and I'm trying to get through the series this year. I've also just taken delivery of VE Schwab's The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, so I'm looking forward to that.(less)

I think a lot of people who write are obsessed with the words being perfect and it paralyses their ability to progress the text. My advice would be writer the wrong words now, move things along and then revise later. You don't have to show it to anyone until you're happy so you can hone and hone to your heart's content. You can't hone, improve or edit a blank page though, so get the words down, however roughly they come out.

Writer's block is not what plagues most people I know though, it is, instead, writer's procrastination (of which I am guilty). The doing of other assorted nonsense as an avoidance tactic, because they know they've got a tricky bit coming up. Remember it's not a sculpture, a carving or an engraving. The delete key and the 'save as' button are your friends and you can have as many shots at it as you need to get it right. Create six or seven different versions and see what you like and what you don't. Just write.

*Obviously take all advice given by me with a pinch of salt because my book has an argument between a demon and some sentient phlegm. I may not know what I'm talking about.(less)

Herron still comfortably the best in the genre. Funny, satirical, tense, beautifully written. Uniform excellence as per the others in the series.
