John Watson is a graduate of Sam Houston State University and a native Texan. He first learned about tabletop roleplaying games in the early 90s; he quickly fell in love with the hobby, and it went on to become one of his major passions in life. His first adventure was published in the early 2010s and he continued his journey into writing/game design from there. John has worked for Ulisses-Spiele, Lester Smith Games, Stiff Whiskers Press, and D3 Adventures as a freelancer. He launched his own publishing company, Rugby-Melee Games, with cofounder Colin Darby in 2020. His other hobbies include rugby, strongman, video games, and traveling. He currently lives in Texas with his dogs, Brigid & Carna.

I had a friend ask me this question recently, which provoked many unexpected thoughts. Where did you come from? I think many of us ponder what happens after we pass away, but have we contemplated where we can from before that? Of course, this is on a spiritual level and not a scientific level. (less)

I'll yield to the words of Neil Gaiman that he shared when asked a similar question during a live reading that I was able to attend which was part him answering questions and part him reading some of his shorter works. The question was, "How do you get unstuck when trying to write?". Like Neil, I thought this question was worded well because it meant there was a way to no longer be stuck. The best way to do this is to completely unplug. Being in front of a computer screen is not the place to sit for creativity. I have my best ideas when I'm away from technology. When I need inspiration I will sit outside, without an electronic device in sight armed with my trusty notebook and a pen. I don't force the thoughts, but see what comes to me. Sometimes, I will write down something that I want more thoughts around and see where my mind takes me. Other times, I read. I find reading can give us the greatest inspiration. (less)

Ayn Rand
“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it's yours.”
