Book Review: The Raven Boys

4/5 stars  The Raven Boys The Raven Boys are a group of friends who are intense and interesting each in their own way. I loved how unique each character was and how clearly I could see them. It was nice to see a character like Blue who was raised in a way that most would think of as odd or weird, but she embraces it while not really isolating herself or vying for attention either. She is who she is and she’s comfortable being herself. I usually am not a fan of reading stories with multiple

Book Review: Cinder

3/5 stars  Cinder Cinder is a retelling of Cinderella with a steampunk/sci-fi twist. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it since I’ve read a couple retellings that weren’t that great and I am very burnt out on all of these retellings, but I was pleasantly surprised. The world that Ms. Meyer created was unique, interesting, and the storyline was very engaging. There were tears shed, laughs had, and now I’m waiting for the second book to arrive. The only thing that makes me a bit hesitant to read the

Book Review: Reign of Shadows

5/5 stars  Reign of Shadows I wasn’t a fan of Firelight (mainly because I didn’t like the MC), which is the only other Sophie Jordan book that I’ve read, but I gave this book a chance. I was not disappointed! I read this book in one day because of the action and how invested I was in Luna's story. This is an incredible book and is so well written! I loved everything except Luna’s reaction to something at the end (don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I won’t say more) and the huge cliffhanger!

Book Review: Fire Touched

5/5 stars  Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson, #9) Another great book by Patricia Briggs in one of my favorite series, Mercy Thompson! A lot happened in a short time that really tested the wolves of the Columbia Basin Pack. I enjoyed seeing how far Mercy and Adam have come together and how much stronger Mercy has become. I cried over the death of an inanimate object at the end, which tells you how great Ms. Briggs’ writing is. I can't wait to see what the changes enacted in this book cause for the

Book Review: Got Luck

4/5 stars  Got Luck Got Luck is the beginning of the story of Goethe (Got) and the revelation about his past. Got is a police officer turned private investigator and is hired to research a case where a wealthy widow wasn’t satisfied with the police report she received regarding her husband's death. Got’s investigation reveals more than the true murderer and everything he knows is turned upside down. It was definitely an interesting read that kept my attention and I am looking forward to reading

Book Review: Elsker

3/5 stars   Elsker (The Elsker Saga #1)   We begin Elsker by meeting Kristia, a girl from a small town in Oregon with visions that have caused her to be an outcast in her hometown. Needing to do something different with her life, she goes to study abroad in Cardiff and meets Ull Myhr, a sexy Viking whose first reactions to Kristia are nothing like she wants. A lot happens between these two and the romance between them is sweet as Kristia is innocent and Ull is old fashioned, really old

Book Review: Fortress Britain

4/5 stars   Fortress Britain (Arisen #1)   The ZA (Zombie Apocalypse) has taken out most of the world, but there are still a few survivors managing to hang on. We are introduced to several different military crews and through their stories we learn about the state of the world. We also learn that there’s a new type of Zulu (zombie) and it seems that its primary goal is to infect instead of eat. This book was definitely a set up for the rest of the series, but nonetheless it was extremely

School and Unfinished Books

i'm taking a fast-paced, online college course so I haven't had much time for anything. I have also started that annoying habit of reading a book and then stopping part way through it to start a new one. I'm hoping by the end of the week that I will have a couple book reviews for you. Two of the books I'm reading are really good so I don't doubt that I'll have them done by Friday.   I downloaded some free books from Amazon and will read those after I finish my current ones.   I'm currently

Book Review: The One

2/5 stars   The One (Selection #3) by Kiera Cass   Don’t read this if you don’t want spoilers for the previous books.   A decision is finally made.   I don’t know how I didn’t get whiplash from this series. To say that I’m happy it’s over is an understatement. Yes, I liked book one, book two was not as good, and then we get to book three. ::Sigh:: I felt like the ending was really rushed. We find out some important things that could change a lot, but then it’s just sort of shoved aside as we

Book Review: Runes

3/5 stars   Runes (Rune Series Book 1) by Edna Walters   Hot neighbor with a Harley, magic runes, and secrets are only the beginning of Raine’s problems. I’m so conflicted right now. I’m angry about the ending and yet the author did a good enough job to make me want to read the second book to find out what happens.   We meet Raine, short for Lorraine, who is an average girl with two best friends who do everything together. Then here comes the new hot, bad boy neighbor, Torin. Did I mention he
