| “I found the fragments unevenly interesting” the author says about notes Kafka wrote. I found the essays unevenly interesting. Sometimes they meandered a lot and I struggled to pull the pieces together, but mostly they all came to a conclusion and I ...more | |

Another book plucked from the TBR pile. I loved the descriptions of the farm and animals and wondered very much how the book would end. I was satisfied. “We all should have acknowledged, perhaps even spoken of, love and want and doubt and fear.” Good ...more |

| I can smell the orchard, see the birds swirling in the sky. A good writer. I love Peter Heller. | |

| Love love love this unique book. This book is the Eat, Pray, Love book for the middle-aged and it is like Under the Tuscan Sun for foreign home renovators and it is the Kitchen Confidential book of recipes. All rolled up into an impossible romance. | |

| OMG the stories. No spoiler but…the monkey story (pg 130) is stuck in my head. Or this “This is what a wife is for—to scold her husband into becoming a good man.” | |
“For years, in between our short trips overseas, my husband Dave and I started talking about a different kind of trip, a long-term trip. Both of us loved the food, wine, and people of Italy, and we began talking/dreaming about someday living in Italy for an entire year. We named this dream our Beautiful Dream—our “Bel Sogno.”

“By hook or by crook, I hope that you will possess yourselves of money enough to travel and to idle, to contemplate the future or the past of the world, to dream over books and loiter at street corners and let the line of thought dip deep into the stream”
