Why did I write "The Cosmic Adventures of Captain Hob"?
Let me begin by asking you two questions…
Question #1: When is the last time you read a novel about ferrets?
I’ll give you a minute to think about it… I bet most would answer a big no.
Question #2: Have you read an action packed and hilarious novel about SPACE FERRETS?
Sounds pretty freaking awesome, right? Interested? Well look no further my friend; I can hook you up…
I have never written a book, let alone published anything. However, here I am writing a short blurb about a sci-fi novel I wrote. What in the world lead to this point? Let me fill you in with the details.
When I was stuck inside during the peak of the Lockdowns, something inside my partially normal but secretly unhinged brain snapped, and from the depths of absurdity bellowed out a legendary tale of unbridled sophistication and ambition… “The Cosmic Adventures of Captain Hob!”
All kidding and poor attempts at cracking well-crafted jokes aside, I am still flabbergasted at how I, an extremely normal and straight-laced fellow with a corporate job wrote a novel centering on Ferrets who become self-aware and commit to a daring mission of traveling to the Moon, all while being pursued by a vengeful mailman and a dark mysterious figure.
Early June of 2020 is when I started to feel utterly restless and anxious, like I was about to hatch from a cocoon and evolve into the next Pokémon. I could not quite scratch the itch in my mind that grew stronger and stronger with each passing day confined within my homestead. One fateful evening while smoking my trusty pipe with some fine English tobacco, it hit me like a skydiving sumo wrestler.
What would a ferret do if it became sentient; became self-aware?
Immediately after, a second question fired off, emerging from my subconscious like a spring…
How in the world would a ferret even become self-aware?
After answering those two hilariously absurd questions, the ENTIRE STORY emerged very quickly into my mind and landed almost as quickly onto my manuscript. Every day after a long day at work and helping my beautiful wife tend to our beautiful newborn daughter, I would pound out at least 2,000 words, and in about a month, I was sitting on a 47,000 word novel.
I recently just ended a very successful Indiegogo Campaign where many people pre-ordered my book. Using the profits from that fundraiser, I will self-publish a polished novel Spring 2021 of this year on Amazon (paperback, e-book, & dramatized audiobook). It’s now pretty surreal having a professional front cover that looks straight out of the 1950s. Would not have it any other way, and it just screams ADVENTURE!!!
I don’t want to spoil this story, but I will tell you that it is a hilarious, action-packed, heartwarming, and sometimes creepy story for all ages that reminds each of us that we are all born to do Great and Incredible Things, whether those things are big or small.
In these dark, unpredictable, and evil times, I wanted to write something wholesome with a positive and inspiring message. I hope this story bring you equal parts laughter and warm fuzzies.
To the stars!
