I'm the author of Elemental Council, Yndrasta: The Celestial Spear, and Godeater's Son. I live in the US with my wife. In early 2025, our son's going to join us and ruin our good time. We can't wait.

Check out my blog, The Lingual Fantast! (noahvannguyen.com)

I like coffee. It's a problem. I'm decent with foreign languages. I'd love to hear from you if you care to share.

Hard to assess here, because it assumes a certain amount of knowledge about other writers' processes. My guess is that since we're all professionals, our actual technical apprpaches are fairly similar. I'm thinking practices, methods, writing techniques, so on.

That leaves the question of style. There are two must-haves for me to be satisfied with my work:

First, a deeply integral emotional arc. I want my characters to take some heartbreaking gut punches and really learn from them before the end of the story, and I want this to really fundamentally intersect with the story's plot.

Second, subtlety that edges on invisibility. I try to maximize understatement so that those gut punches and their lessons are deeply felt, even if it means they might not be seen or heard.

I'm not saying the way I do things is superior to anyone else, or that these elements themselves are superior. I actually find myself frequently observing how I might overdo things and look to other authors to see what I can learn from them, or to readers' feedback to see where a lighter touch might help. I'm always trying to improve.

Thanks for the congratulations! I love my baby boy. He's definitely made writing (and life) more hectic. Where I used to be able to carve out some non-negotiable time for writing, writing now takes second seat to my child. In that sense, I haven't balanced fatherhood with work at all — I'll always stop whatever I'mdoing when he needs me. But I am trying to be more conscious about the rest of my time so that my writing gets the space it deserves on my schedule and the energy it deserves from me.

Basically that means greatly rethinking what I do to recharge so that I'm maximizing the overlaps between free time and writing time. As an example, before I had a kid I might've watched TV after work; now I find myself focusing entirely on reading.

Hope that answers your questions Vansh. Shout-out to Rob Rath for providing helpful advice on this front back when my baby was born!(less)
