I am a Civil Engineer by profession, and have written since 1980, but seriously only since 2013. My debut novel The Mandroid Murders published in 2022, its sequel The Carborundum Conundrum in 2023, and my latest, The Rigel Redemption, in June 2024. My stories feature in Space Wizard Science Fantasy’s four Worlds Apart anthologies, and the Gallus anthology from the Glasgow SF Writers' Circle. My story The NEU Oblivion was long-listed for the 2019 James White Award. In addition to the GSFWC, I belong to Reading Excuses, the British Fantasy Society, and the British Science Fiction Association. ...more

The Earth is ruined as a viable ecosystem, leading to Humanity's own destruction.

(This is more of a tragedy than a horror actually, considering what we had, and the chances we had to act more responsibly.)(less)

Also, I'm well into the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. Also brilliant. I will be moving on to 'Lies Sleeping' (RoL, #7) soon. My next SF read is part of my ongoing quest to catch up with recently passed award winners, so, I will be jumping into Paolo Bacigalupi's 'The Windup' girl next, after finishing Conn Iggulden's 'The Gates of Athens'.(less)

I listened to this free on Audible and found it to be really well narrated, but the stories did little for me. Macho adventuring in the vein of Edgar Rice Burroughs - and if that's your jam, you probably would enjoy this: It's not mine. ...more

It was a real pleasure to return to the Annamite kingdom under the Seine, and most especially in the company of Thuan and Asmodeus. I freely admit that I had lost my way with the novels by the time I reached the halfway point in the third (The House ...more

Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die,
