“She’d caught me watching. She winked and let the word honey escape on a contrail of booze and smoke. She was like weather coming in a window. Winter air clung to her coat … I hid my face in its magenta wool, bleeding as the zipper cut my cheek.”
Kate Rounds, Catboat Road

“I’d watched women in dressing rooms, hips like curio shelves, fashion falling from their bones. This woman dared clothes to protect her.”
Kate Rounds, Catboat Road

“I wanted to experience her like a normal person, like a guy, drunk on summer skirts, jacket hooked on one finger, tie blowing over one shoulder, glancing sideways like men do before ducking into cars.”
Kate Rounds, Catboat Road
