It All Started With a Dog at Our Campsite
I was supposed to be writing something else.
We were on a family camping trip, and I’d brought along my notebook with a half-planned story I thought I’d work on around the campfire. But then a dog wandered into our site—friendly, off-leash, completely unbothered by the strangers in his path.
He didn’t belong to anyone nearby, and before long someone from town came to pick him up. They knew exactly who he was. Apparently, he had a habit of wandering.
Later that day, I climbed into the hammock with my notebook and started writing something completely new. That was the beginning of Mountain Getaway.
In the story, Molly is visiting a small-town campground, just looking for some quiet. But when a pup keeps showing up at her site—followed by a local man named Rick—her peaceful getaway turns into something else entirely.
It’s a sweet, clean romance full of small-town charm and a dog who steals a few scenes (and maybe a few hearts, too).
I never finished that original story I brought on the trip. But I’m so glad I followed where inspiration led instead.
