If you have spent any time at all with me on your timeline, you will know by now that Incipience is one large metaphor for my experience with lifelong mental illness and the crisis I had in 2019/2020 whilst writing it. It feels like every other month there’s new (and by “new” I mean exactly the same just re-hashed) discourse on social media about books and trigger warnings. Bafflingly, despite being incredibly helpful to readers and taking almost zero effort for authors, there are still people vehemently against them. Some claim they will “spoil” the story, and some just don’t seem to understand what they are.
