Two Board Book Contract!
Hello everyone!
I'm working on a newsletter to shoot out, but here's the skinny for those who find me here.
I did receive a contract for two board books with Scholastic, Little Shepherd! Huzzah! Here is the cover for the first work which releases October 7, 2025. The second release will follow in the spring of 2026.

Feel free to preorder here or at your favorite site.
Secondly, I've continued to publish poetry for adults. Once the poems are published, I post them on this site under this tab. It's wonderful to have a new audience and format. The reception has been delightful. I'd imagine a chapbook will be a project to pursue when time allows.
Otherwise, I continue to revise novels-in-progress. Keeping the works relevant to the time and my own self-development as a writer and human.
Facebook has decided to reinstate me, although, not my author site. I'll continue to ask for that correction.
I think that's the skinny! Sending love, health, and peace to each. Lorie Ann

Deleted!

Hey all,
I'm sorry to say that Facebook has suspended my account as a nefarious Instagram user connected to my Facebook profile. My personal page, author profile, and book pages have been removed. I have appealed repeatedly with several emails, however, there is no response. There is no Facebook help desk, no support service, and no assistance for the situation. The "download your content button" is inoperative.
I have lost 18 years of documentation, photos, and over 4,000 industry connections. Please know, you can find me here or eventually on Blue Sky, and my Instagram is still active. Go figure.
In this challenging, changing industry, I'm still seeking publication for my YA and middle grade novels. I am publishing poetry and hope to have a chapbook, eventually. I am working with Scholastic and will have two board books to announce soon.
Facebook invites me to start a new profile which seems ridiculous at this point. Seriously, Zuckerberg?
Onward! Best to each, Lorie Ann

Hello, Poetry!

I'm so happy to be entering the adult poetry sphere this year! I love this wide open playing field with straight shots to possibly share creations. The children's industry is at a complex moment, heightened by book banning. In the meantime, here's my short bio as of today. Huzzah!

Two New Pages: Published Poetry and Collage
Hey all,
I added two new tabs to my header. One will take you to my Published Poetry, and the other is where I'm collecting my Collage and Vision Boards such as this:

and this:

I often am asked about vision boarding, and I have run workshops in schools in the past. I find it very helpful in processing what has happened, imagining a novel-in-progress, and clarifying where I'd like to reach. Hope you enjoy or try your own hand at ripping, cutting, tearing, and gluing!

Here I Am!
After a blog break, I'm back on site. Here's the skinny:
1. I'm still writing! I have an adult memoir, a poetry collection, two YA novels, a middle grade, and the conclusion for Firstborn percolating, plus a myriad of board books.
2. I'm looking for representation by an agency interested in giving voice to a disabled person focusing on literary works.
3. I've left Twitter in the upheaval of the site.
4. After fourteen years, I'm currently no longer posting reviews of board books at readertotz. Co-founder and writer Joan Holub and I still make a call for ALA to recognize the board/novelty book format in their annual awards with the Dorothy Kunhardt Award.
5. I'm creating more visual art which I hope to share here soon.
6. My mentoring with Stony Book University for their Children's Lit Fellows Creative Writing Program is on hiatus following Covid closures.
7. Physically, scleral lenses for extreme dry eyes were not compatible with my Sjogren's. And a year on hydroxychloroquine for lupus has created nerve damage. I may post more specifics in the future in case it would help another person piece together their own protocol.
8. I am a grandmother of two now! Celebrations!
9. Having been in the sacred space of walking a beloved through death a year ago, I continue to read widely and search for truth and the beauty all around.
That's my quick catch up. Thanks for stopping by in our busy season.
May your day be well, and your night be well! xox

Shepherd: The Best Board Books to Cut Your Teeth On

I'm happy to share I've participated in Shepherd which is a beta site that lets you browse the personal picks of your favorite authors in one giant bookstore. My entry is: The Best Board Books to Cut Your Teeth On. While featuring my own board book, I Love All of Me, I was able to recommend five other titles, as well, and explain my choices.
Basically, if you have a favorite book, it's possible that author has created their own list of recommends to keep you reading. Links make purchases easy. Here's Kirby Larson's and then Lois Lowery's separate lists they recommend.
If you are an author or illustrator and interested in participating, you can jot an email to Ben Fox at forauthorsatshepherddotcom. Thanks for checking out Shepherd, and happy reading to you!
