Morally grey grim reaper

One touch saved my life, and I’ve paid for it ever since.

Twenty years ago, the Great Sickness wiped out over half of the world’s population. My parents were taken by it, and I was at death’s door until a grim reaper took an interest in me. Instead of taking my soul, he saved my life. At a cost. His gift is now my burden.

I never asked for the ability to control people bearing death’s mark, but I am paying off my life debt by helping Grim reap his targets. It was almost bearable until one of his assignments went horribly wrong. I barely escaped, and with no help from him. It took two years of healing, but I survived, thanks to my best friend. The best part? I believed Grim was out of my life for good.

I was wrong.

When Grim shows up on my doorstep offering a way to completely pay off my debt, I reluctantly give in, only to find out he’d sent me after monsters. Four gorgeous monsters who weren’t at all what Grim claims.

They told me evil was coming, and my power could save countless people in our already half-dead world. Grim told me his targets were dangerous and would hurt innocents if I didn’t complete his mission. Both stories offer a way out of the poverty that plagues Cadaver City. The trouble with two sides of a story is one of them had to be lying…

To give myself and my friend a chance at more than survival, I must make an impossible choice. What I decide could very well end my borrowed existence–or give me more than I bargained for.

I believed I was better off alone.

Ben changed that. He’s my soul, my everything. However, as strong as our Bond is, I’m still struggling to come to terms with fate. Maybe I’ve lived among humans and their rigid morals for too long. Maybe I’m afraid. I tell myself Ben’s Bond is enough.

Yet, I can’t ignore Luca’s Pull any longer.

Or Finn’s.

Denying our connection is futile, and I need to make a decision. Give in to the Pull—or spend the rest of my life miserable.

On top of that, we’ve just committed treason.

After coming too close to murdering the rightful Fae queen, my Order is done killing innocents.

We are no longer Oberon’s hounds.

To succeed at breaking away, we’ll need an army of our own. Will other Orders join us? Not to mention our sworn enemies: Fae marked for death on Oberon’s morbid scrolls. We need the Fae just as much as we do the other Assassins.

Our entire future rides on our mission. Succeeding means freedom from Oberon. Failing means death for us all. No pressure or anything.
