Jilting Jory is a fun, summer escape full of Cornish breezes, trout fishing and stream-side waltzing.

The scene below is one of my favorite flirty bits!

“Wherever did you learn to waltz?” she asked playfully. She gazed at him through her lashes, and he realized she was flirting with him. Very well. He would enjoy the game, but he refused to attach any greater meaning to her words.

“’Twas an incomer lass that taught me,” he said.

“An incomer, you say?”

“Aye, and a fitty one at that.”

Her brow wrinkled. “Is—is fitty good?”

“Aye, lass. Fitty is very good.”

She nodded once. “Well, then. She must have counted you a friend to offer her instruction.”

He concentrated on the movement of his feet rather than the feel of her beneath his hand. “No, lass,” he said with a dramatic sigh. “I believe she was merely fond of my dog. ’Twas nothing more significant than that.”

She laughed, the sound trickling over him. “I’ve met your dog, sir, and I can say with certainty such was not the case.”

“Of course, ’twas. Trout is loyal and trustworthy. A man’s not likely to find a better companion.”

She shook her head, rejecting his argument.

“But there can be no other explanation,” he insisted. Even as he said the words, he cursed himself for casting his line where the fish were not likely to bite.

“Perhaps—” she began. And stopped.

He waited as long as he could, a second or two, then he prompted her. “Aye, lass?”

“Perhaps she held you in affection.”
