Mike Connell is a 1980 West Point graduate and retired lieutenant colonel. After leaving the Army, he taught history at a private school in Rockville, MD for two decades and just completed a memoir about his military service in Africa. During his 20-year Army career, he served as an intelligence officer in West Berlin, a commander of a 170-man company in Arlington, VA, a foreign area officer in the Ivory Coast, a security assistance manger in Niger, a history professor at West Point, and an intelligence and policy analyst for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon. She taught me a lot of the details involved in being a writer such as the importance of catching fleeting ideas about your work when they occur and of drafting a concise query letter to explain the gist of your book to potential publishers. After hearing about her experiences, I decided writing would be a great project to undertake after I retired from teaching.(less)
