I write the women’s fiction stories I love to read, both contemporary and historic tales of women and the rich lives they lead along their journeys of self-discovery. A lifetime admirer and longtime resident of Italy, I’m often guilty of sneaking the bel paese into my stories.

Award-winning author of five novels, one short story collection and coeditor of a historical fiction anthology. Proud member of the Women's Fiction Writers Association (WFWA), and the Historical Novel Society.

So glad to see you're a fellow women's fiction/historical author - aren't they fun genres? I love the Balkans, and especially Bulgaria - so much interesting history, achitecture, and great food. It's a great question. I've been in Italy for (gulp!) twenty-five years now, but even after all that time, its beauty and history still surprise me. I travel a lot, but still have so many places I need to see. Even in Rome, there's always one more church to discover, one minor museum I have't yet seen or a newly discovered Ancient Roman site I need to visit. The good news is - endless inspiration for future works! Happy writing - and traveling - to you, too!(less)

But perhaps my favorites were: The Guest List (Lucy Foley), What the Lady Wants (Renee Rosen), The Switch (Beth O'Leary), and The Rose Code (Kate Quinn). And on the non-fiction side, loved Jason Riley's Maverick: A Biography of Thomas Sowell.(less)

Admiring Conegliano through the vines

Earlier this summer, I was up in Conegliano, Italy – in the Veneto region – with my younger son for a track and filed race he had there. It was my first time in Coneglaino, a pleasant little town. But its real claim to fame is all the vineyards surrounding the towns in the hills…

"I'm about 25% of the way through the book - and even though I'm the author, I'm finding it a welcome relief from today's difficult world. Even cracking myself up occasionally!

Here we go - I'm 60% of the way through - and loving the way George Manches" Read more of this review »

“Always know your own worth. Don't ever let anyone allow you to doubt just how special you are.”
Kimberly Sullivan, In The Shadow of The Apennines

“Love makes liars of us all. Even the most honest and best intentioned of us will eventually resort to deception to see the one we pine for.”
Kimberly Sullivan, In The Shadow of The Apennines

“You have everything figured out, don’t you? I am not sure you have ever impressed me more than you have this evening,” said Janet, her words belying the fear that gnawed at her insides. But her admiration was real. In her modern world, Miss Chadwick, with the benefit of a broader education, could be the CEO of a multinational corporation or a politician. Most certainly a politician.”
Kimberly Sullivan, Dark Blue Waves

“I was always lucky in my bad luck.”
Bohumil Hrabal I Served The King of England

“I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound or stab us. If the book we're reading doesn't wake us up with a blow to the head, what are we reading for? So that it will make us happy, as you write? Good Lord, we would be happy precisely if we had no books, and the kind of books that make us happy are the kind we could write ourselves if we had to. But we need books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us. That is my belief.”
Franz Kafka

“Venice is like eating an entire box of chocolate liquers at one go.”
Truman Capote

“Every human life has many aspects. The past of each one of us can be just as easily arranged into the biography of a beloved statesman as into that of a criminal.”
Milan Kundera Laughable Loves

“You lose your immortality when you lose your memory.”
