Born and raised in Plymouth, England, Jan is a father, a husband, and a former poet. Readers enjoy his work for its directness and sense of humour, as well as its smooth, free-flowing prose.

Unsurprisingly, much of his back catalogue is poetry, with four collections, two narrative poems, two anthologies, and an instructional guide for children to his name.

More recently Jan has pivoted to fiction, starting with a collection of offbeat shorts before moving into darker territory, conceiving the Hartmouth Horrors series of standalone novellas, and it is on this twisted fare that he will be focusing for the foreseeable future.

Kingdom Horror Collective

This Monday morning, my mind is on the fantastic Kingdom Horror Collective, the writers’ group I’ve been helping to set up these past few months. It was finally launched on Friday and I’m ready to crow about it now.

First, a few words on the group and our ethos. We are six British authors united by our love of gritty horror with a focus on integrity, honesty, and the bravery needed to tackle tr

Dead Orchid by Alex Sinclair
"Blimey! Where to begin with Dead Orchid?
It’s one of those rare books that I’m certain – even years after finishing it – you’ll still recall how it made you feel: sickened, fevered, haunted. Rough around the edges but dripping in dread, Dead Orchid is" Read more of this review »

Coffin Moon by Keith Rosson
"Coffin Moon by Keith Rosson absolutely sank its teeth into me. What a vampire novel. Dark, atmospheric, brutal, and strangely beautiful at the same time. I’m a sucker for horror set in the past, and Rosson brings the era to life with grit, blood, and" Read more of this review »
Sins of Isis by Uilleam Whitedale
"“Oh my God…” “WTF” “Jesus, dude…” A few of the phrases I muttered to myself as I was reading this story. Lust, demons, vampires… oh my!

Sins of Isis is a wonderfully written delve into the state of wrong yet never feels distasteful. Let me be clear, r" Read more of this review »
