This isn't an anti-showing post. It is not my intention to end horse competitions or make you feel guilty about showing. Just to challenge you to see things from a different point of view.

But there was more to Greyhound's story than his tremendous speed. His enigmatic personality drew people to him. He made people laugh with his antics. Some described Greyhound's personality as almost human.

I don't believe "normal" is something to strive for, at least not as "they" define it. Happiness, love, peace, contentment, empathy, compassion, gratitude, being true to yourself -- these are things I believe we should strive for. I want that to me my normal. I've been working on embracing that and nurturing it into existence.

It is entirely possible to know such a truth on one hand--that you did everything you could--and on the other wonder if that is indeed true. It's the same tug-of-war I have with PTSD every day...logic brain vs. trauma brain...

I've spent the past (almost) three years chasing the ghost of a horse named Greyhound. A tall, lanky, awkward Standardbred gelding who became the greatest trotter of all time.

I loosely planned my travel schedule, making reservations for the places I would stop for the night but the gap between sleeps was open, with plenty of time to reach my nightly destinations. This left time and space to follow my heart.

If I can be nothing else in this world, I can be honest. I don't read blogs. I just don't. But yet I write one, and expect people to read it. And they do, or at least they did. I'm not sure anymore.
