C.A. Farran is an emerging author of dark fantasy. She’s addicted to video games, Kit Kats, and energy drinks.
Farran grew up by the sea on a steady intake of fairytales, renaissance fairs, and mythology. She’s always felt a profound connection to horror and dark fantasy, spending her childhood searching the woods for monsters and magic.
Now, she spends her days photographing nature in Maine with her two cats; Commander and Demon, her husband, and their wildling.
This is C.A.’s first novel, but her short story "Safe Travels" can be found in the anthology "Frontiers: Past, Present, and Future" by Owl Hollow Press.

It wasn't until after the birth of my daughter that I realized I needed to pursue writing unapologetically. If I wanted my kid to grow up chasing her passions fearlessly, why couldn't I? (less)

“Her grief is a palpable thing. It isn’t weeping or wailing, at least not from where I can see. It isn’t crying out or screaming to the skies. It’s a quiet pain that sneaks its way into conversations around the fire. It tinges old memories with a layer of regret and burrows deep enough she carries it without anyone noticing.”
C.A. Farran, The Ballad of the Last Dragon

“A well-placed word can yield so much more bloodshed than the tip of your sword.”
C.A. Farran, Songs of the Wicked

“Sometimes the only difference between death and survival is a healthy dose of fear.”
C.A. Farran, Songs of the Wicked

“This was how normal people survived their own fairy tales.

They became their own kind of monster.”
Emily Lloyd-Jones, The Hearts We Sold

“Well, when you put it like that, it sounds rather ridiculous. Say it better. Use more adjectives.”
C.A. Farran, The Ballad of the Last Dragon

It’s a quiet pain that sneaks its way into conversations around the fire. It tinges old memories with a layer of regret and burrows deep enough she carries it without anyone noticing.”
C.A. Farran, The Ballad of the Last Dragon

“I long to see all the world has to offer. To sing on every stage in front of hundreds of people. To bear witness as the sun hits the highest peak of The Hoarfrost Mountains or lie beneath the glittering stars over the flatlands. But sometimes, all I want is the familiar scratch of my quill against parchment. Here, the world fades and words spring to the surface. Words have always been easy. They’re both the bridge and the great divide. Words bring me into stories—into worlds I might never have known. They give me strength—a shield against what lies out there. Behind words, I can disappear until all that remains is a faint whisper. A flicker of a story spoken in hushed tones.”
C.A. Farran, The Ballad of the Last Dragon
