One will reopen but the other is a real mystery- the owners are still living there, haven’t changed anything since they closed it and don’t sell anything either… what is happening there?(less)

One where I feel I’m useless as a writer, no one wants to read what I write and I may as well give up. And the second where I simply can’t start a new story because all my ideas seem silly and worthless.
With the first type of block I have learnt to leave the story I found so useless and start another one. This has often worked so well I can return to the other story later - or not, depending. I also have to give myself a pep talk and point out that if no one reads the story it won’t matter since then no one will know how useless a writer I am.
With the second I have to keep moving around looking for different inspiration but not forcing it. Sometimes it is worth just lying around and seeing what happens.(less)

Audiobook of Murder in the Cards

I have just finished an audiobook of Murder in the Cards by Gina Cheyne (I put my surname there because I saw that there is another audiobook book also called Murder in the Cards but completely different and not by me!)
This is the first time I’ve made an audiobook and it really was an exciting experience. Unlike writing a book, where you do everything alone, in a audiobook you share every experien Read more of this blog post »

It did take a while to read. This is not because it is badly written but simply the way he writes is rather like a mass of dense undergrowth. He starts on one point, has an aside and spends a few minutes discussing it, and then gets back to the origi ...more

Touching and interesting history of Guatemala

Written as a novel about a teacher telling his young class about their history and how it fits into world history this is a fascinating book. I learned a lot about Guatemala and its culture.

Good, exciting ending and a plot that made you want to carry on to the end.

But the lack of real understanding of how Victorians spoke annoyed me. For example, no Victorian boy would use the single word Perfect in the way modern people do. There were
