Victoria Meyers, hMa, founding partner of hanrahan Meyers architects (hMa), practices architecture in New York and Los Angeles, and specializes in designing buildings that use light, sound, and other natural phenomenon as material aspects of design: www.hanrahanMeyers.com; www.VictoriaMeyers.com.

Meyers has authored three books on her architectural works: Shape of Sound; Designing with Light; and The 4 States of Architecture, co-authored with Thomas Hanrahan.

I …moreI am inspired to write as it helps me sort out my ideas as an architect. I maintain a few blogs, including shapeofsound.us; and victoriameyers.com. I use my blogs to collect ideas. When I am ready to write a book on a topic, I go to my blog, and print my posts that relate to the topic of my book. For my last book, Shape of Sound, I spent one year basically organizing posts I had written over the previous 5 -6 years. It's a great way to start writing. If you write just a small amount, every day, it adds up!(less)

Victoria Meyers I always hung out with artists in New York City. Through my arts friends I got very involved with John Cage, and the Cage Foundation. In fact, when Ca…moreI always hung out with artists in New York City. Through my arts friends I got very involved with John Cage, and the Cage Foundation. In fact, when Cage was still alive, I used to live not far from Cage and Merce Cunningham. Through my interest in Cage, I became very interested in Sound Art. My first Sound Art contact was DJ Olive. Not long after that, I was put in touch with Stephen Vitiello, who is featured in my book (along with my own architectural works that feature sound installations).(less)
