I Didn't Even Know Goodreads Had a Blog Feature (but I'm going to use it)
Hello! I guess I should use this space to introduce myself, although I have no idea where to start. I guess we can go back to the beginning. I have always wanted to be a writer. That was the dream: to have a book with my name on it. That's been the goal ever since, and I'm grateful to have accomplished that. I remember presenting a short story to my second grade teacher like it was yesterday. It was hardly anything to write home about, but it was mine and I was so proud of it.
My main form of writing growing up was through song lyrics. They were awful -- at least, I remember them being awful -- but again, they were mine. I threw all of them away, but I will never forget how I poured myself into them at all hours of the day. That binder was stuffed to the gills with loose leaf paper. I can distinctly remember the scent of dried ink on paper as I flipped through the pages. That was my childhood. I also tried my hand at fiction, although I struggled with the genre. It was never my thing, though I enjoyed reading it. I always had my head in a book.
In high school, I took a poetry course, and that was when my love of poetry was sparked. I've been writing it ever since. That later became refined when I took a workshop in college.
Creative nonfiction is my second love. I took a course my freshman year in college, and once again, I was enthralled. I remember just being starstruck by that genre. One book that will always hold a special place in my heart is Love is a Mixtape. Although I haven't pursued the genre much out of college, I will always love it.
So that's a little bit about me! Some other fun facts are that I'm Christian, I'm a horror nerd, and I love to read (though I've been in a bit of a reading funk lately, so I joined a book club to help fix that).
