Another Meaningless Election is in the Books
We’re on the verge of World War III. Women’s rights are on the line. Inflation is reaching record disruption. Extremism is prevalent on both sides. No one can afford essentials: food, gas, internet, water. The planet is melting. Fascism is coming. Free speech is dying. Human rights are being stripped away. Trump looms. Biden can’t stop spending.
Take a breath.
It’s over. The assault at least. Starting today no more doom and gloom ads. No more candidates blaming each other for everything wr...
Mainstream Media Discovers American Female Athlete Detained in Russia Three Weeks After Arrest
Today, multiple mainstream media outlets reported that former WBNA champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, and Phoenix Mercury All-Star Brittney Griner was detained in Russia on drug charges.
The New York Times reported that the Russian Federal Customs Service detained an American basketball player at Sheremetyevo Airport near Moscow after finding hashish oil vape cartridges in her luggage. (That’s weed.) The Customs Service didn’t identify who was arrested, saying only that she’d won two O...
Robinhood Manipulates “Free Market”; U.S. Federal Judge Rules It Legal
The United States legal system continues to serve corporations, which should come as no surprise to anyone who has had to deal with corporations in a courtroom. The latest example of the United States protecting elitists and corporate interests over regular Americans was when a federal court dismissed claims that Robinhood wrongly restricted ‘meme stock’ trades on Friday.
Here’s what Reuters wrote about the ruling:
In her 66-page opinion, Altonaga (the federal judge presiding over the ...
A T.V. Doctor and an Outsourcing Capitalist Highlight How Broken American Politics Is
When I think of Pennsylvania, I don’t think of steel mills. Not blue-collar workers. Ben Franklin, who? Not the Amish. Or the Quakers. Not the Founding Fathers of our country. Not the factories. Not the everyday people struggling in jobs they hate barely making ends meet while living paycheck to paycheck.
No, I think of a millionaire T.V. doctor and a millionaire hedge-fund manager.
That’s a good representation of Pennsylvania?
Well, two rich, egotistical, greedy tourists think they rep...
The Cost of War Politics and the Russian Invasion of Ukraine
I don’t want World War III to begin. Nuclear warfare seems world ending. But I can’t seem to shake this feeling that we’re not doing enough to stop the war in Ukraine.
During his State of the Union Address on Tuesday, President Biden led with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He announced new sanctions and coordinated stealing of Russian oligarchs’ property. President Biden then called Putin bad. He also said he would defend every inch of NATO countries, which of course, doesn’t include Ukraine....
The Shame of Suicide Ideation
TRIGGER WARNING: suicide
We all have demons. Some of us know them well. Others are oblivious to our weaknesses. In 2019, I tried to outrun mine by moving to Southern California. Two-thousand miles from everything I’ve ever known. Truly on my own for the very first time in life. I felt free and alive. A fresh start. A new beginning. Leaving the past and all the baggage on the East Coast. At first, everything was amazing. California was paradise. But it didn’t take long for my flaws to make the...

Self-publishing Isn’t for Everyone
We all have to make hard decisions. For me, it was realizing I have a ton of writing talent but can’t go at it alone. That’s a hard lesson for a guy who named his company, Brian Versus the World. Between a lack of time and required capital, I don’t have the resources available to give self-publishing everything I have. I believe that the way you do one thing is the way you do everything, so if I can’t give it my all, I need to give it up.
The last five years have been eye-opening for me in a...

Happy Birthday Charles Bukowski
Today we celebrate a dirty old man. A poet and writer in an unforgiving world, Charles Bukowski took back writing from dull literary scholars and showed the world the gritty side of life. He used to eat a single candy bar as his only food for the entire day as he struggled to become a writer. Although he’s no longer with us, Bukowski’s words still resonate.
My introduction to Bukowski began in 2016 when I bought an audiobook, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck. I was struggling with work, so...

Reporter Interviews Hardware Store for Story on Economy
Today an article about Home Depot’s earnings was titled, “Home Depot issues a warning about the economy.”
I’m afraid this isn’t The Onion.
By Home Depot, did the reporter mean that Super Mario looking guy (minus the beard and eyes) that masquerades as the company’s mascot?
I read the first sentence to learn more.
“Home Depot says consumers are feeling crummy about the economy, and they’re dishing out less on major home renovation projects.”
It blows my mind that Home Depot, a ...

Missing in Action: Last Week’s Blog
I hated not posting a blog last week. Definitely not the first time it’s happened, either. It fucks me up when I don’t write. I promised myself I’d get a post up every Friday, no matter how bad the writing was. It would help me practice hitting deadlines, something I’ve struggled with since grade school. Nope. Another broken promise to myself. Those hurt the worst. It’s a great way to feel disappointment and shame, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Speaking of wasting time, like many writer...
