While not a book character, Psych has long been one of my favorite TV shows, and Shawn's character is written so well throughout all eight seasons. I imagine if we had lunch together, there would be a lot of comedic moments while eating pineapple on the Santa Barbara beach. (I say pineapple specifically because one appears in every episode.) He would likely use his eidetic memory to point out situations occurring all around us, and then we'd get pulled on an adventure that leads us to solve a case together before Lassiter does!(less)

Find support in friends, family, networks, and social groups (a strong support system can offer you advice, guidance, feedback, inspiration, a reader's perspective, and help you with lurking imposter syndrome)

2. Publicize your goals to apply a healthy amount of pressure on yourself to see them through (if you share your goals, you will feel more inclined to finish them; you can ask people to check in with you periodically)

3. Don't force yourself to do everything alone (most authors don't isolate themselves in the forest and emerge a few months later with tired eyes and a final draft in hand, an essential aspect of their journey is having support)

4. It's not too late or too early to start a writing project (whether you think you don't have enough creativity, intelligence, time, or people who will enjoy your writing, write anyway- your contributions are essential)

5. Get out of your way (whether it's procrastination, self-judgment, or writer's block that has you stalling your next move, be careful with how you talk to yourself because you are always listening)

You can always be a writer no matter what you do in life. I have written poetry, songs, and short stories of every genre for as long as I can remember. Not every aspiring author scribbled rhymes on the sides of their worksheets in school or spent Bring Your Child To Work Day tapping on their Mom's office typewriter, but every published author was once an aspiring author. Think on this statistic: about 97% of writers never finish their novels, and only about 20% who do will publish. I hope my top five pieces of advice can help you achieve your writing goals, whether you aspire to write books, blogs, articles, etc. (less)

“Isn't this where it is all leading to, anyway? I am simply suggesting we be proactive in taking the next inevitable step here. We've entered a new era of human augmentation, but brain microchips are where you draw the line?”
