With Ryan Holt (Analyze This Mr. Bond) and James Bond as Mythic Hero
Earlier in the year, screenwriter Steven Knight noted he viewed James Bond as a kind of national myth. This lead to an intriguing post by Ryan Holt (Analyze This, Mr. Bond) about the tension James Bond sits between national myth and pulp hero.
In this episode, we discuss James Bond as myth, how the legend grew, our thoughts on Steven Knight, and much more!

Epic short pulp adventure film | The Mirror of Amun-Ra
The Mirror of Amun-Ra from Shattered Star Productions is a marvel!
Director Jonathan Rogers displays his love for pulp storytelling in the debut story for Cleopatra Pryce. This is a tight short story rendered beautifully onscreen as a short film.
Cleopatra Pryce fits within the classic adventure genre of Indiana Jones. She’s got a plucky – “can do,” attitude which is thrown into opposition with the bad guys who want the mirror for pure greed.
The Mirror of Amun-Ra is vintage storytelling with timeless heroism. I look forward to seeing more of Cleopatra Pryce on the screen and on the page.
Jonathan Rogers recently announced there will be a bluray release of Mirror coming soon, which promises to be as grand as the film itself.
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
“When you think of an ‘archaeologist,’ you likely picture a dashing, globetrotting figure who explores booby-trapped tombs and recovers dazzling treasures. In the year 1930, a young woman named Cleopatra Pryce wants to be that… desperately. She dreams of making a world-changing discovery that would place her in the annals of mankind’s most famous and adored adventurers. But so far, none of Cleo’s meager quests have seen results.
She now has a new hope: an ancient Egyptian mirror that, according to legend, was forged by a wicked Pharaoh to imprison the souls of his enemies. After being lost for centuries, its final resting place is within Cleo’s grasp. If she can find and deliver this relic in one piece, it will be the big break for which she has waited her entire life.
But danger awaits, as Cleo is not the only one seeking the fabled mirror. And if she can survive the impending confrontation with these foes, Cleo might learn a valuable lesson about the most beautiful and priceless treasure of all…”
Directed, written and edited by Jonathan Rogers, starring Janelle Kloth, Jarrod Crooks and Troy Antoine LaFaye, with original music by Bryan Arata, visual effects by Shane Madsen, cinematography by Marcus Bugni, sound design and stunt choreography by Jarrod Crooks, and camera equipment provided by the Saint Paul Neighborhood Network. From Shattered Star Productions, in association with JC Films and Wellington Studios Productions.

The best Diamonds are Forever book covers
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the publishing of Diamonds are Forever, I’ve put together my own retrospective review of my top 10 cover choices. At the bottom, I’ve also included quick commentary about my least favorite covers I’ve found.

Dishonorable MentionsHere are the covers I not only dislike, but I despise. They are not great, but bad enough worth my discussion.

Penguin Modern Classics
Everything about this cover offends my eyes. The titles are too easily absorbed by the hideous blue filter.
It’s supposed to be a Las Vegas showgirl, but instead all I ask is why there’s a hooker on the cover.

Berkley Paperback
This is boring. The entire run of these Berkly Paperbacks are bland silhouette of James Bond with a gun. Nothing highlighting the unique qualities or settings of Diamonds are Forever. It is generic in every way.

Harper Collins 2025 Editions
The entire collection of these Harper Collins editions are lazy as they can be. Nothing interesting in the design. Even the 007 on the page lacks excitement. They could have designed this cover on Canva.
I have seen many authors with a thirty dollar cover more intriguing than this one.
What do you think?Do you have a favorite Diamonds are Forever cover?

Thorn | Kindle Pre-Order Now!
Thorn is available for preorder on Kindle now, order your copy today!
A Novel of Outlaws, Knights, and a Kingdom on the Brink
England, 1484.
The crown is uneasy. The nobles are divided. And on the roads of Devonshire, a legend is being born.
Whispered in taverns and feared by corrupt lords, Thorn of Devonshire is no common outlaw. He steals only from those who deserve it. The cruel barons, merciless mercenaries, and men who hide behind rank while crushing the powerless. To the people, he is justice. To the crown, he is a dangerous symbol.
As England reels under the rule of Richard III, powerful forces move in secret. Foreign mercenaries stalk the countryside. Churchmen are coerced. Innocents vanish in the night. While knights sworn to king and crown wrestle with loyalty and conscience, Thorn wages a brutal, lonely war in the shadows, one savage blow at a time.
When a single act of mercy draws Thorn into a widening web of political intrigue, betrayal, and violence, his legend threatens to ignite something far greater than rebellion. In a land where honor has become a weapon and faith a liability, Thorn must decide how far a man can go before justice turns into vengeance.
